Cam2Pan-best $9.95 I've spent in a while!

Recommended Posts

I have bought the 3d glasses (never bought the ir tracker) and they sit and collect dust-I just found the flicker rate too much of a drag and didn't like running at lower resolutions.Another thing I have bought in the past collecting dust is a cheap web cam-at the time cost me $50 and I thought it would be a great way to video conference with family across the country-but for some reason-(perhaps scheduling conferences) it has also been pretty much collecting dust. Now Cam2Pan gives new life to Fs and my dusty camera for $9.95! I almost missed the post below: http://www.cam2pan.com/but went to the site and got it-you have 30 days to try it for free.My draw literaly dropped when I got it up and running! Run the program-aim the camera at your face-and whammo-look left and your virtual head moves in the cockpit! Look down towards the gear lever before landing and the cockpit scrolls with your head! It took a little calibrating but I have a completely smooth and natural head panning-and there are tweaking options galore. What are the advantages? From what I can tell it is cheaper than other similar units-a video camera is cheap now if you don't already own one(and usable for other functions) and the software at $9.95 very cheap. You don't have to wear a virtual helmit, or some kind of dots attached to your head, or plug in anything to your video card-just run the program and you are going!Along with active camera , this is one of the best things I've seen to come along for Fs in along time... in my opinion of course and I have no connections to the company..Give it a try if you haven't! :-jumpy :-jumpy http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif

Hi GeofThanks for this post. The idea of wearing a battle helmet from CH Prods had put me off the other jobbie, but this seems to be the business. I can get it to move my cursor around no problem, but can't quite see how it interfaces with FS. It's not working for me yet. Is there something I have to do in ActiveCamera?Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

OK, working now, thanks. Very cool. Do you have to live with the cursor hovering about in your vision, or does it disappear at some point? Still there right now ... anyhow, thanks again.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

I've got the Track IR and 3d glasses, when I read your post I went and borrowed my brother-in-laws camera and downloaded the demo software. It works just as the track ir, for sure. Right now I prefer track ir 'cause I've got it set up just right for me. I can see where someone who doesn't have glasses or tracker could sure put it to use. I don't mind the dot. I just attached it the 3d glasses and have used only one dot since I've had it.I was really hoping more for the camera to be more compatible with active camera pro. As with the track ir, when in Active Camera mode the centering is next to impossible to keep the view centered and the mouse will not go away. For these two reason's I leave the active camera off. It just gets to be too much when the cockpit gets busy.I really wish some guru could make the two more compatible, I for one would shell out some bucks to allow active camera pro to run with track ir better, or develop head latency with track ir. I've posted at the Naturalpoint forum, but I think it fell on deaf ears. If more simmers could see the combo of 3d, head tracking with latency it might get done. That would be the cat's meow.................Have A Good Day !!!! Rex

If you look left to scroll the virtual cockpit left, you aren't looking at your monitor anymore :-hmmm ;-) Andy

It's not actually looking left. One just has to lean their head to the left, so the eye is still looking straight at the monitor. The further you lean (not to the point of falling over)the more over your left shoulder you will be seeing all the way around to the backseat. By the way one leans when they see the rear seat is the equivilent of looking at the left side border of the monitor. Trust me it works good.:-smile12Then add active camera and when the plane moves up, down, left or right. Your virtual head sways.:-ufo2 :-abduct Rex

The main problem I'm having is the frame rate drops down around 3-6.Without the program I'm getting 17 to 20 in the same area.Gerry

That's what I show too, but when I switch to FS I'm getting very low frame rates. When I close the program, FS goes back to normal.GerryPS. Love your plane.
