Bob,A very useful analogy! And thanks for your honest input.FWIW, RC5/RC6 has got a bug (just confirmed) with online AND offline server access which may be a big reason for all the problems lately. If you are running these problematic versions, please try RC4 again and let me know if your problem is solved. If you need another RC4 download please email Jim Skorna @ [email protected] the mirroring idea... That is where I am going with the private server approach for now. All data is collected via several robot machines dispersed over the world (from publically available data servers). The data is modified for effeciency (making the chunks much smaller by ignoring unneeded items) and uploaded to the hifisim web server. This is then mirrored by several other dedicated web servers (again dispersed). The wxRE version that supports all this will go straight to hifisim.com for the data. If not available (outage, router prob, whatever) it will sequentially search through the mirror list (text editable) until it finds the data. This requires lots of coding at the robot, server and client levels, new server machines + software licenses, and payment for bandwidth/connectivity at the dedicated server level in multiple locations. Not cheap. About $11K has been spent so far on this... and we are only about 1/2 way there. This private server feature is something I want to implement with v1.x, BUT, there are simply no more funds available...To enable private server access a new product version must be launched. There is no way around this unless we can find some folks who want to donate around $10-20K.What I continue to do is add code to work around problems which prevent reliable access to the servers. That is all I can do with v1.x right now. Right now we have a situation where RC5 and RC6 broke the data access routines while the public servers went awry during the weekend. The servers are OK now as far as I can tell. I will be fixing the code so I think all will be happy very soon. If not then of course I will continue to do what I reasonably can. While this is going on, v2.0 development is suffering and we are already quite behind on the schedule. At some point focus MUST be drawn away from v1.x if wxRE and HiFi are to continue future development. As I look back now, I realize it was a mistake to use public servers. wxRE 1.x should have launched at the ~$45 price mark and included private server technology and access. That mistake has caused all of us tons of frustration and many sleepless nights. But all we can do now is continue to try and stay in business (making future development possible) while doing everything we can to make data access more reliable in the current version.Bob, and all, thank you for your input and help trying to solve this problem. I am truly sorry the product isn't performing as it should. Rest assured I am busting my tail on this...Continued feedback is requested!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hi,just for info (at this time $/

I agree that there are "work-arounds". I even have a program (WeatherMaker I thing) that will dynamically change the weather conditions to keep things interesting.BUTIt's not what I paid for, i.e. ActiveSky and its features. Thanks for your inputGlenn D. Willmot

Thanks for your continued input, Damian. It it GREATLY appreciated and honored.I think we're all on the same playing field right now. That is at least a start.I don't know of anyone willing to give you $10-20K right now, but I can probably safely say that if you have a plan....there are plenty of us willing to contribute $10-$20.00 right now. I don't know how many customers that you've had, nor can I predict how many of those would be willing to "help" but I do know that there are a few of us who would love to help you succeed. Think of it as an advance toward the success of straightening out v1.x and the development of v2.Do the research necessary to make it happen, and let us know. I think you'll be suprised with the response you'll get. Thanks for the input of r4.....I'll be going there tonight.Keep up the honesty and integrity. It's the end of the race that's most important.Glenn D. Willmot
