December 20, 200322 yr Last night I experienced a series of those sudden and really annoying changes in wind direction over the space of a few minutes. Not severe enough to tear the wings off, but slinging the nose back and forth rather violently. It started approximately midway between KDFW and KOKC. This is probably the point where FS9 was trying fill in the gap between KDFW weather and KOKC weather, and failing miserabley at it as usual. Has anyone noticed if AS2004 is able to mitigate this behavior to tolerable levels?
December 20, 200322 yr We have worked very hard to reduce these events.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
December 20, 200322 yr OK, from what I've been reading I've decided to give it a go. I just finished purchasing AS2004 from simmarket.com. I'm new to this process of paying before I can download the software. I paid through PayPal. The order status shows as "processing". I gather at some point the order will be finished and there will be an option to actually download the software?
December 20, 200322 yr Thanks, got an email notice when the processing was finished and downloaded the file without a problem.
December 20, 200322 yr Hello all,i bought AS2004 immediately after i've seen the weather radar (i couldn't resist) and did a quick flight from EDDT - EDDK (using the great pmdg 737NG) and did encountered two problems:a) Sometimes there where *heavy* sudden changes in wind direction and strongness that caused multiple overspeeds and abrupt changes in heading. The Autopilot manged that but a least the overspeeds are definitely annoying.:( As soon as i put the Active Radar in "Situation" mode graphics of FS2004 lock up (but seems as FS2004 is still runnning in background). As soon as i change Active Radar back to another mode FS2004 runs fine again. Is that a "feature"? I did take a quick look on the manual but everything is set up like described in the manual. But beside this two small problems AS2004 looks really great (i used FSMeteo till today and probably won't use it anymore). Especially the Active Radar is quite impressive.Great Job!RegardsjanoschP.S. Using Win XP, P4 2.8 GHZ, Radeon 9800Pro, FS9 and FSUIPC 3.129 regged.
December 21, 200322 yr I have completed one flight with AS2004 and I wanted to report on the results. This was a return flight, KOKC to KDFW, at 13000, route-based wind smoothing enabled. I was watching the shift-Z wind info very closely, particularly around the ADM VOR, which is where all the violent wind changes occured last night. First noticeable change in wind direction happened around 16nm southwest of ADM. It shifted from about 232 to 215 with little or no change in speed. Noticeable but actually rather gentle. Over the next 12 miles the wind direction gradually wound down to 201, then jumped to 160. Again, noticeable, but not at all violent. I think those were the only cases I noticed. So far I am very pleased!
December 21, 200322 yr 1. Did you load and process your plan in Active Sky2004?2. No, try to turn down your radar settings. Please let us know!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
December 21, 200322 yr Hello,1. Yes i did (i followed exactly the procedure recommended bei the manual)2. I'll try an report than.regardsjanosch
December 21, 200322 yr OK thanks, also note that Damian is working on another adjustment for major wind shifts.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
December 21, 200322 yr Hello, that are great News, i also read the pinned "Post Relase info" messages, that sound quite promising. Thanks for your support.I did some further flights (mostly in european areas) and noticed that in almost all cases the complete flight went well (80 - 90 %) and than at some given time thoose shifts occur. At this moment they occur with high frequency (10-30 in 5 minutes) and after some minutes this stopps as sudden as it has started. Best regardsjanosch
December 22, 200322 yr Hello,i found the reason for the locking of Active Radar, i always activated the Radar via ctrl-f12 but this combination was already assigned to a function of Active Camera 2004 (and this Hotkey is uses for loading presets). So every time i did press ctrl-f12 a file open dialog was popping up (in full screen mode invisible but visible after changing to windowed mode).I reassigned this Active Camera function to another hot key and all problems related to active radar are gone!!regardsjanosch
December 24, 200322 yr Don't know if this is of any help to the AS team, you may already be aware.I am currenlt on a flight from EGGW to LOWI and over TGO VOR I have just experienced the violent wind shifts. Now for the odd bit which may help. The Navlog reports winds over TGO as 342@50kts at FL340. The nearest weather station is EDDS and in the main AS window this also reports winds 342@50kts at FL340 yet the ND in the PMDG737 is showing winds of 110@32 and swinging from about 78 degrees to 120 degrees. This seems to me that FS is not getting the weather predicted by AS, could this be one of the causes of these wind shifts?I have the route imported and smoothing on, I also have TAF processing on.The above is FYI only for after the holidays, and if it helps track down the problem.Rgds
