Bug: Contrails & Ground 'Fog' layer

Featured Replies

Noticed on a flight today, if your at FL high enough for contrails you get this ground 'fog' cloud that follows under your plane in a circle and at the same speed you are going.. So a cloud moving a 500mph+ looks a bit silly. :( I could NOT get rid of this either while at a Flight level high enuff to produce contrails. I cleared all weather thru both FSUIPC & FS2004. Then refreshed the weather and everytime if I was producing a contrail I got the ground cloud. If I wasn't at a level high enough for a contrail I wouldn't get the ground cloud. I didn't seem to matter on the ground visability either in lots of reporting stations I saw zoom by below me they were 10 or more mile. Here is a sample of one of the stations if it makes a difference.KSGF 192152Z 30009G16KT 10SM CLR 05/M07 A3028 RMK AO2 SLP261 T00501067KSGF 191720Z 191818 32012G18KT P6SM SKC BECMG 2123 30006KT P6SM FEW250 FM0300 00000KT P6SM SCT250 BECMG 1315 15011KT P6SM SCT250FL030: 324/13 (2.6) FL060: 334/28 (0.1) FL090: 332/35 (-1.7)FL120: 327/55 (-6.3) FL180: 329/65 (-16.1) FL240: 332/68 (-28.7)FL300: 335/71 (-35.9) FL340: 334/81 (-54.4) FL390: 332/84 (-64.0) ***Route-Based Wind Smoothing features enabled - processed data may not match real-time reports!***For absolute accurate data, turn off Wind Smoothing...

Bump so Damian can see it.. ;)

Bob,Do you have any 3rd party water textures installed?JimActiveSky Support

Bob/Jim:I also have this issue; however, I've had this issue with FSMeteo and the default WX also.James

All,I really think it is a FS thing. Once you get to a certain altitude a certain haze is added, possibly to simulate that you are "really high up". Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Yes I Do..Forgot which version exactly offhand.

Bob,I have Bill L's and see it. I think it is a combination of the altitude of the flight and the water textures directly under the plane. Also the zoom level of your screen shot might have added some effect. At this point I am going to say it is not a problem unless other things develop.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

That would make sense if you were just over water. But how do water textures effect the fact that its seen over middle of Arizona? It seems to be a thing perhaps built into FS2004. Though it wasn't as pronounced when just using default weather. It certainly would be nice if a workaround could be worked out. But if its the worse problem with AS2004 I'll certainly live with it.Its the only problem I've had except for various times where precip in radar has hole cut in middle of it on update, then next update disapears all together. Haven't seen precip thats drawn on radar actually let it move off naturally.

For the hole try turning Global writes off. Let us know if that fixes it for you.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
