December 23, 200322 yr Can I assume that the new ActiveSky 2004 simulates wake turbulance quite accurately?? I was on approach into DFW this evening, and due to heavy traffic, I was following two aircraft to land on rwy 17L. I suppose we were not adequately spaced. Anyway, about 3 miles from touchdown, my plane went almost completely out of control, and I have to disable AP and fly manually. I barely made it. Any ideas?? Thank you.Kevin
December 23, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi Kevin,Are you sure this was not a proper effect, i.e. there was not a large airplane in front of you within 2 miles on the same glidepath, or perhaps another aircraft elsewhere in the immediate vicinity? The wake turb simulation should not activate unless the wake-generating aircraft is within 2 miles and very close. You may want to check out a TCAS gauge to verify the wake turbulence behaviour. Please advise.. Thanks! Of course you can always disable wake turbulence, but it is recommended to instead maintain proper separation.. and remember that MS ATC won't always be doing this for you! Also to note, there has been some strange wake behavior reported, so there could be a problem somewhere, and I am investigating further, but so far no evidence that wake activated when it shouldn't. Hope this helps!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
