January 6, 200422 yr Overally i am quite happy with it.What i like:The Active Radar is great. The depiction of weather is nicely done. I was doing a flight a couple of days ago and was flying over heavy thick clouds. I knew i was expecting clear skies at my destination and watched as the clouds began to slowly thin out, becoming more sparse and smaller until it was clear. The visibility - this is one of the best features in my opinion and was the reason i bought the product in the first place. I hate it when you have massive sudden visibility changes which is totally unrealistic. Active Sky goes some way to getting rid of that. Also the visibility is usually not too high (who can see 120 miles these days?) and it creates a nice haze. The support provided by the support team and the developer is excellent - best i have seen for any product. What i dislike:Visibility smoothing doesnt kick in (according to the manual) til you are below 7000ft. Any chance of setting this higher or having an option allowing us to set this to what we feel is appropriate?Sometimes there are sudden changes in cloud formations i.e. clouds disappear and re-appear and the odd sudden visibility change. A few other people have reported this as well. I need to play around with my settings a bit more i think.More jerky during flight. I get more stutters than before. I have my FS folder compressed which may have something to do with it. I need to try with an uncompressed folder.Sometimes when you start off at an airport which is supposed to be overcast (Toronto Pearson Intl) the overcast clouds are over a small part of the sky and the rest is blue sky. I think i read on this forum (though i cant find it) that there was a problem where some stations did not report cloud cover which was interpreted as clear skies by ActiveSky and that it was going to be fixed. Is this correct?Hopefully the patch will deal with some of the above. What i would like to see in ActiveSky:Visibility Limiter - i hate the horizon in FS so it would be great if we could set the maximum visibility to 70 miles or something like that. I know FSUIPC does this but i dont really want to buy a new product just for that.Overall i am happy. Good job guys.
January 6, 200422 yr Yes, you will get a heck of a lot more stutters. No, you won't get an overcast sky like it's supposed to be sky 95 percent of the time. Yes, you will have cloud formations popping up out of nowhere on practically every flight. And no, generally you won't get smooth wind transitions aloft either. So, why did we buy this program if not to address these exact problems inherent in default interal FS9 weather? So far we are paying to be beta testers it seems. Lots of promises being made but precious few being delivered.
January 6, 200422 yr Commercial Member James,Please refrain from this type of posting. This would be about post #6 in the past 2 days from you with very similar text. I am sorry you are dissapointed but not everyone shares the same view that you do, and by repeating yourself like this you are simply "trolling" which will NOT be allowed here. You have expressed your view many times, we all know you are highly dissapointed, and we deeply regret that, and are doing everything we can to remedy this. In addition, as you have been advised, MR1 is almost out, which specifically addresses these issues. Why must you continue to ignore this fact and try to discourage other users and the developers?I am a very reasonable person, who tries very hard to ensure that everyone is happy. You would not have the slightest idea (nobody would) of how hard I have worked to make this so. These types of posts are not only highly discouraging, they take up time and further delay my ability to promptly finish the update. Please consider this, and realize that even with the highly negative overtones, I do appreciate your feedback, but it is just too redundant right now to be doing any good.I appreciate your understanding and patience, now I get back to work...-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 6, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi San!Thanks so much for the feedback...I will consider and work on those suggestions...Concerning jerkiness during flight, have you tried turning down radar detail options?Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 7, 200422 yr Damian,Don't pay "rugerdog" the slightest attention. He seems to enjoy "trolling" whenever he has an opportunity (check the PMDG forum). Your product is very good and will only get better.
January 8, 200422 yr I concur with George, don't take it personally Damian.Whenever James French, aka rugerdog, posts on the fora, it's a negative post. Refer to the PMDG forum for plenty of examples of his "entitlement to complain" as a registered owner of a product. Tom Allensworth addressed this type of behavior in the following post:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search
