January 24, 200422 yr Commercial Member Just flew a flight from PHX-TUS testing out the PMDG Beech 1900 - I observerd some very wrong weather based on what AS2004 was reporting while coming into Tucson - here's the METAR that AS2004 claimed to be operating on:KTUS 240355Z VRB03KT 10SM -RA FEW027 SCT036 OVC060 10/08 A3007 RMK AO2 RAE25B43 SLP169 OCNL LTGICCC DSNT NW P0000 T01000078I could see a cloud bank toward TUS further out, but around TUS 40 DME it vanished, leaving a slight haze, but otherwise clear skies. I tried refreshing AS2004 to no avail. The whole way down I had no clouds and no rain at all. (it's actually thunderstorming here right now...) A bit odd eh? January 24, 200422 yr Ryan,Please keep in mind that any METAR has an actual effective range of a 2 mile radius. After that 2 mile range, AS uses a complex system to send weather to FS.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
January 24, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Jim,I understand that, but why should I be seeing stars above me and no precip at all in the sim when I'm looking out the window and the real city is being rained on with a dreary overcast cloudbank?? (which is what the METAR showed) ;)Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
January 24, 200422 yr Ryan,OK I understand better now. That is an odd one. I really don't have an explaination! Keep a watch out and please let us know if it happens again.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
January 24, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Ryan,Any chance you loaded up AS2004 while already airborne? With suppression options enabled, this can give you a similar result. Remember to always load AS2004 before your flight. Is this what happened here? Also, if the above doesn't apply, you can force more consistent destination weather by using a flight plan w/ global writes enabled.. Does that help?-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 28, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Ok here's my exact procedure I've been using to run FS+AS:1. Load up FS, create flightplan, pick aircraft, etc load plane at origin airport with clear weather theme.2. ALT-TAB out, run AS2004 (I have it set to start up paused), load flightplan into AS, process and hit refresh.3. ALT-TAB back into FS and away we go...I never turn AS on while in the air, always on the ground before the flight... January 29, 200422 yr Damian,Can you explain why this limitation exists (about starting AS2004 before the flight)? I can load FSMeteo at any time during a flight and it doesn't give me any of the problems that AS2K4 does.J
January 31, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi all,As to the original issue, may related to a possible TAF bug we are working on? Please try turning off TAF processing.. Does that help?As to why no local wx updates when airborne.. that is because you have local suppression enabled. It prevents any stations with your suppression range from being updated, to prevent any visual transitions in your immediate area (letting you fly through the transitions instead). It works well but requires that the initial write occur on the ground so local wx is set proper. Hope that helps...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
