February 3, 200422 yr I must have done something wrong.I have worked through the installation process up to 'Configuring FSUIPC...' on p.6 of the manual. However, when I start FSUIPC as instructed, I don't get a window with lots of tabs (eg, wind, visibility, etc) as per the manual; I get a window with only 'About' and 'Logging'. It seems to want something to be registered, but the manual doesn't mention that, and the FAQ says it isn't necessary.Have I broken something? Can it be fixed? How??Many thanks!Peter
February 3, 200422 yr Sounds like you have the freeware version. It can be fixed by purchasing a registration key.Andy b Andy Brockbank
February 3, 200422 yr Hi,To get all the extra features (i.e. the wind, visibility tabs etc.) you need to purchase a licence key. I think this costs something like 23 EUROS. Otherwise you just get the 'About' and 'Logging' screens. It isnt necessary to register and buy the licence key for FSUIPC. Third party programs like Active Sky can work with an unregistered version of FSUIPC perfectly fine. You only need to register and buy a licence for FSUIPC if you want those extra features which FSUIPC provides as stated in the manual.
February 5, 200422 yr Thanks for the replies. It strikes me as odd that I should have to pay TWICE to get the features described in the manual! Makes me a bit wary of purchasing products from the same producers in future!
February 5, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,You don't understand... you don't need FSUIPC registered to take advantage of all AS2004's features. All this is included in the unregistered version by a license we have purchased for FSUIPC accreditation. You should probably read the FSUIPC documentation to understand exactly what the registered version gives you. None of these features are required by AS2004, and they mainly pertain to non-weather items. You don't have to "pay twice to get the features described"... Let me know if you need more clarification...-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
February 7, 200422 yr Oh! Thank you for persisting with me! I guess what was throwing me was the pictures in the manual, which assume registration without actually stepping you through that part of the installation process. It seemed like I'd strayed off the script.I also appreciate the FSUIPC has only recently gone to a pay model, so perhaps when the manual was struck, the screens portrayed were indeed the default ones.I shall have another go at it, and thanks again!

As soon as I start the program, the tips screen tells me that "FSUIPC should be configured properly for use with ActiveShy wxre. Most importantly is to enable all smoothing and graduated visibility options..." So my ? is, if I don't chose to use a registered version of FSUIPC and DONT configure the above settings...am I going to be getting the same level of weather depiction / realism as if I do register and make the changes detailed in the install manual. Does the version of FSUIPC contained with AS already have these settings configured as layed out in the manual?Maybe it would be a good idea to post a disclaimer of sorts stating before purchase that a registered version is needed to be able to fully configure options needed for AS to work most effeciently...ThanksAllen Thomas
February 16, 200422 yr Hi Allen,Your level of weather depiction/realism will be the same. What everyone has to remember is that the wxRE manual was written at a time where there was just one version of FSUIPC, the free version. All the options were there so that is how the manual was put together. When the split happened with FSUIPC, the wxRE manual was not updated because we were working on AS 2004.The unregistered version of FSUIPC that is included with AS 2004 is not configured at all because there is very little to configure. The disclaimer is not needed because it is not true, AS 2004 will run just as well with a unregistered version or a registered version. We have always stated this. Please write me back if you have other questions or comments.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
