March 4, 200422 yr Hi Dirk,Two things come to mind:---I believe a refresh of AS will trigger the text message again.---Use FlightWatch. Tune comm1 to 122.0 and listen for the information. Un-tune when finished.I know these are not perfect solutions but you may find them helpful.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 4, 200422 yr Hi, JimThanks for your fast response.Yes, your suggestions help. Could this feature be considered in a next As2004 update?Regards.Dirk Trotteyn (SANT)
March 4, 200422 yr Dirk,Please don't take this the wrong way, but both of my suggestions are a part of AS already. For the refresh suggestion: Alt/tab out of FS, click on the refresh button in AS, and then Alt/tab back into FS. For the FlightWatch suggestion: That has been a part of wxRE for a number of versions and a part of AS 2004 since day one. Neither one needs to to considered for the next update, because they are already there.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 4, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Jim perhaps he is referring to the ability to display the updated station after every station crossing (vs only during update or via FW).If this is the case, then I will consider it, but I find it redundant when ATIS/Flightwatch basically accomplishes the same thing. Something to note.. way back in the initial development versions of AS2004 we actually had our messages being sent this way. Everytime a new closest station appeared, we'd send a message. After having several folks test it, it was apparent that this caused too much confusion. They didn't understand why the weather that was scrolling across their screen wasn't the same as what was directly under them. Fact is, in FS9 the closest report is simply that.. the closest.. and has NO bearing on what you're going to see at your current location unless you are directly over the station (even then it can vary based on FS9 interpolation of other nearby data). Thus we eliminated that message system and opted for sending the new data only on update. We also changed some terminology (i.e. "Active station" became "Closest station"). This was well received and while we still have some occasional user confusion concerning closest station and current depicted wx, we feel it is much more intuitive now.Hope all that makes sense.. feedback welcome!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 5, 200422 yr OK so that would the method we had during early testing.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 5, 200422 yr Jim,as you know many of us turned the Text Display Message off during the initial beta tests because of there being too many updates.Would it be possible to replace the FlightWatch voices that are currently in English with say Spanish or another language for those that are not native English speakers. This would make it a lot easier for them.
March 5, 200422 yr I use a text-to speech program called Cool Speaking. I'll look into this when I get a chance. I did convert all the wxRE files after we first released FlightWatch, but just from English to English. I did it just to play around with the Voice pack.Edit: That didn't take long. There are 11 additional voices for Cool Speaking.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 5, 200422 yr Dirk,What language would you find most helpful?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 5, 200422 yr Hi, JimFor answer your question I must say the languajes most spoken all around the world: Spanish; French; Italian; Duch; Neerlands; Swedish; Hebrew; Portugues; Norwegian; etc, etc. Jim, this is a shot where you can see what text message I am talking about. We need jus a way to control is triggering. An can see as many times we need until we can understand the text. Nothing else. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/65756.jpgThanksDirk Trotteyn (SANT)
March 5, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Jim thanks for looking into this.To all,Yes, Cool Speaking is a good solution to this. You can easily create your own voice packs (see the readme's included with AS2004, it explains how to make your own). Unfortunately we cannot use this utility to create voicepacks for distribution with AS2004 (due to copyright issues), but nothing (as far as I know) prevents users (not involved with HiFi or product development) from doing this on their own and/or distributing it freely. In the future, I plan on including additional languages in both voice and textual data / documentation. No time frame for this yet, but it's certainly on the list.Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 5, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Dirk,Take a look at ADVDISP (www.schiratti.com/dowson.html).This is a program that allows an alternate FS message display window and has many configuration options. This should give you what you need!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
