LGAV & LGAT (Athens, Greece) weather settings (MR1)

Featured Replies

There is someting that puzzles me regaring weather in Athens. For those who don't know here's some background on past private emails with Damian.LGAT Athens old closed airport has a weather station in FS9. LGAV the new one (10nm East of LGAT) does not have a WX station in FS9. Damian aliased LGAT station to LGAV real METARs and now you receive weather still coded LGAT but in RMK section it says ... RMK SOURCE ID LGAV. This means Damian is using LGAT FS9 WX station to import LGAV real weather. IF LGAT was still in operation we would have problems but luckily LGAT does not update (real) METARs any more. Now to the observation.Damian I checked the MR1 files after installation and I found the following weird things. In ...Fs2004ModulesActiveSky2004...Inside Complete_Airport_List.txt you haveLGAT,037.905,023.724,68LGAV,037.905,023.724,68same (LGAT) location coordinatesand inside wx_station_list.txt you have LGAT,37.896,23.728,20,2.9only without any LGAV entryWith these entries when positioned at LGAV we do get LGAV weather but aliased with LGAT WX stationed 10 Nm West and tagged as LGAT ...RMK SOURCE ID LGAVAccording to a friend, Chris Makris, we edited the two above files as follows :Complete_Airport_List.txtLGAT,037.905,023.724,68LGAV,37.936,23.945,308wx_station_list.txtLGAT,37.896,23.728,20,2.9LGAV,37.936,23.945,90,3.0These entries are for two airports & WX stations in correct location. Now we get proper weather tagged as LGAV and 0nm from FS9 LGAV. If for some reason we go to (closed) LGAT we will get the aliased LGAT ... RMK ... with correct (real) LGAV weather. So is there any reason you did not do this change ?Is there any danger in messing up AS2004 with what we just did ?Reason I don't contact you privatelly is for others to read also in case the above edit's are correct and needed.Kyprianos Biris :-cool[link:avsim.com/greece/hvacc]Hellenic vACChttp://vateud.org/images/vatsim-eurs.gifhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Hi Kyprianos...Essentially this accomplishes the same thing as far as the wx depiction and fetch is concerned. The difference is that in your new config, you have added a new wx station which luckily FS9 has recognized (LGAV) even though it is not in its native wx database. Wx data is not actually provided for LGAV, only LGAT (via the wx snapshot, fetched from LGAV), but AS2004 recognizes that this is as the closest valid station and interpolates from it. There may be some slight differences, but in that area it should not be much (if any).In short, this should work fine and it sounds like a better way to do it in your case. The reason I didn't include that is because there is a chance that LGAV may not be properly recognized as an FS9 wx station (in which case that wx would be discarded). In addition, our translation/aliasing process, in general, assumes that FS9 may not recognize the "new" or "fetched" station name, but we KNOW that the original FS9 wxID will always work for writes. LGAT/LGAV may work either way but some translations must go to that original FS9 ID. The end result is the same, we are just being a bit conservative to ensure no problems despite many different types of scenarios. Please keep us informed on your modification. I would like to integrate it into future public beta test versions and give it a good workout on many different systems. If it works OK for all I see no reason to not include it :)Thanks!!!-Damian
