March 21, 200422 yr Hi AllI am new to Active sky and am hoping that somebody is able to explain to me how active sky works, I can not get me head around it. In Fs2004 you can set Dynamic weather and it will change itself over time, how does this work in active sky with updates and taf processing on, if you left the pc on all day sitting at an airport when would the weather change, would it stay identical until the next real life taf update in 24 hours or would it start to change on its own, probably a dumb qustion but thanks to any body who can explain it to meRegardsWayne Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
March 21, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Wayne,With TAF processing on, when the TAF element is more valid than the METAR element (based on the time string), the TAF element will take effect. This gives you approx 24 hours of changing data per the TAF IF the METAR is old for whatever reason. With online updates though you'll mainly be using METAR information. It is thus a "backup" for dynamic wx anytime the METAR report is old. With FS9 Dynamic WX slider turned up, FS9 will change the wx between updates. Not recommended in most circumstances, as the FS9 own wx changes can cause visual shifts in wx each time AS2004 updates the wx. Best to leave the dynamics to AS2004.Hope that helps...-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 21, 200422 yr Hi Wayne,I worked on your answer this morning while the forums were down and I am going to post it anyways!!First, with AS running make sure dynamic weather is turned to "none" in FS04.Second, our user manual will do a better job explaining this whole concept than I will, so I highly recommend reading it!Depending on your settings in AS, your weather would change, but may not be accurate. The main reason for this is because you are static at an airport and the option to Use Local Range Supression would kick in. Yes weather would move into and out of your airport, but it may not match the active METAR. While flying though, you will be moving through changing weather conditions based on the METARs.TAFs are used when the option is turned on and the local METAR is older than the TAF.Please write back if you have other questions!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
