April 1, 200422 yr Hi Damian and JimI just come back to this forum after a long time troubleshooting my computer for randomly corrupted files. Eventually, I had to replace my hard drive after having backed up my data. The consequence was that I jumped from build 81 to build 90, and wow ! what a difference ! The weather simulation is now almost perfect, and I really enjoy flying with AS2004. So, many thanks for the hard work and for reading all the reports.I have a question about the best way to simulate the dynamic weather : I see two ways of doing it : first with online updates, and second is TAF processing. (A third way is with both options enabled). Which is the best way ? Can some simmers share their experience ?I flew recently from HESC (in the Sinai desert) to LCRA (Cyprus) with online updates ON, and TAF processing OFF. It was a flight of approximately 2 hours in King Air. The last weather station before flying above the Mediterranean sea was in Israel, so that this station had a very extended
April 1, 200422 yr In my opinion there is no reason NOT to leave TAF processing on if you want dynamic weather conditions. If you have online updates disabled, weather will be as accurate as the forecast, which over the course of a few hours flight time, I would hope would be pretty accurate. If you have online updates enabled, having TAF processing on guards against stations that fail to update during a cycle and have weather data that is "old" compared to neighboring stations. You ask:"This was probably not in agreement with the real weather, but would TAF processing ON and NO online updates have been better ? April 2, 200422 yr Author I did not intend to make tests at the beginning of this flight, so I did not save the several updates I had during that flight. What struck me was the sudden modification of ONE METAR message and its consequences.By the way, my flights are also only one or two hours long, and, like you, I fly with TAF processing ON and online updates OFF, since usually, the weather does not change that much in one hour. Exceptionally, I fly transoceanic for 4-5 hours. I think that, in that case, it should be better to use online updates. But again, the objective of this thread is to share experiences...BestAlain
