First problem

Featured Replies

Hi,I went ahead and bought the ActiveSky promotion this afternoon. Installed it without a problem, weather working great, no problems here. However, when I load the Radar (Ctrl-F12) and start changing the zoom my FS starts to hang. Framerates drop from 25 to 1 and never go up again. Closing AS does not solve the problem. I have to completely shutdown FS and restart. So for the moment I cannot use the Radar. Anybody any idea why ?I think my specs are not that bad, performance wise.

Hi Thomas,Try this: go into Active Radar and go to the Options Screen. Then lower the Details level. Click the Commit button and see if that helps. Please post back!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi,In addition, make sure your "Alt Radar Render" option is off (in AR options) as the symptom you are getting has been related to this with the newer video cards. Some other things:Render to texture needs to be off (FS9 display settings) and if using FSW cloud textures make sure you have the 32-bit set.Hope that helps! -Damian

Jim, Damian,Thanks for the quick response and solution.First of all, I installed the MR1 (I thought the version I bought was already up-to-date, but seemed it wasn't). Then I went ahead and downloaded the 32bit clouds from FSW, disabled the render-to-texture in FS (don't know what exactly it does) and kept the radar details at high (I know my system can handle this). The problem seemes to be fixed! Just did the same flight as yesterday (in the PMDG 737 from KJAC to KASE) and FS did not hang on me, so I am :Dthx guys!and btw, awesome product! Seems there will be a patch available soon, no idea yet what the improvements mean.

Hi,If you haven't turned it on then this shouldn't be an issue. But it's in ActiveRadar, Modes, Options screen...From the manual:The ActiveRadar Module (continued)Options DisplayThe options available here will affect your system performance. The highest detail options are recommended ONLY for higher-end systems, 1.5GHZ or higher. Lower-end systems will need to use the lower detail options. Data Update IntervalSpecifies the update interval, in minutes. Remember that if you change locations in FS it will take up to this many minutes for the data to refresh. The lower the interval, the more often new data will be processed and this could affect performance. Enable MET File Generation and MET File Update RateCreates a .MET file for use with external add-ons including FSFlightMax. This is an obsolete system and is not recommended, but the functionality was provided in order to support older 3rd-party add-ons. The .MET file is written to the ActiveRadar folder. The MET File Update Rate specifies the re-write interval, in minutes. Enable RadarEnables the radar system. Disable this option to prevent radar processes from loading, improving system performance. The Radar Situation Display will not show precipitation unless this option is Enabled. Alt Radar RenderEnables the alternative radar rendering method. The standard method is to use rectangular pixels. The alternative rendering method uses ellipses to render each return and involves a multi-pass technique for intensity sorting. Using the alternative method can significantly impact simulator performance. Radar DetailA four-level setting, from low to high, of radar detail. The lower detail settings use fewer pixels and less CPU. The higher detail settings use more pixels and more CPU.

Cool thanks, i will check on this when i get home, i have had the same issue, but only sometimes, i just didn't use the weather radar for a while, but with the new improvments coming out, hopefully in the very near future, i am once again interested in using it, so want to get it right, thanks for the quick response.
