August 17, 200421 yr Hi StaffJust wanted to report that, so far, build 140 is performing pretty near faultlessly for me, as far as I can tell. Just had my second flight today of about 1 hour duration and everything worked glitch free. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems to be take much longer "Writing station data ..." when I first fire it up. This doesn't really affect me too much because while it's doing that I have plenty of other things to be getting on with but I did notice, when I checked out what data it was writing, that some of the stations were up to 250nm away. Is this the same as before?Paul Croft10 miles SE of EGLL Paul Croft 15 mls north of EGKK
August 17, 200421 yr Hi Paul,Thanks for the report!I think the distance is 300 miles. I load up from Detroit Metro(KDTW) and write KPIT weather, which is 288 miles away. About how long would you say the write process is taking? Please do this with FS being the active program, Thanks!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 18, 200421 yr Author Hi JimWell, you'll be glad to know that you've got this program really well trained. I saw your reply early this morning and thought I'd see how it fared before internet traffic built up.I run FS on one pc and all comms, weather, etc. on a second through Pete Dowson's WideClient program. At 06:15 zulu I turned off everything apart from FS9 and WideClient then started AS2004. It downloaded the wx data file in about 15 seconds and, less than 45 seconds later, everything was loaded. Very impressive. I then closed AS2004, re-started ZoneAlarm and Norton AV (with LiveUpdate turned on but not Auto Protect) on both pcs - the default situation for me - then started ServInfo and SB Host, then joined FS9 and FsNav to SBHost and finally connected to Vatsim through Squawkbox. That should make a difference I thought. Wrong! Virtually no difference at all. Twice I disconnected and reconnected AS2004 and both times it reached "Online Mode Weather Update Completed..." in about 55 seconds.I put this down to low internet traffic and have been testing it again this evening 18:30 - 19:00 zulu. I must have started, closed and re-started AS2004 half a dozen times now and I cannot get it to take more than 60 seconds from startup to ready.I have no idea why it was taking so long before. I can only put this down to your excellent programming - once AS2004 knew that I had told you about its playing up, and you'd shown an interest, it bucked its ideas up:-)Whatever the reason, it's certainly running fine now. Many congrats and, to reiterate what others have said, your fine quality of after-sales service does not go un-noticed.Paul Croft10 miles SE of EGLL Paul Croft 15 mls north of EGKK
August 18, 200421 yr Thanks Paul,Your words keep us going strong sometimes!! Your times from your testing are right on. Of course the download is going to depend on your Internet connection and general traffic, but Damian has coded it for a fast transfer.Sometimes a re-start of FS and AS can speed up the write times, but 45 seconds, in a heavy airport area, is right on.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 18, 200421 yr Author Just had another flight, this time a short hop from London Gatwick over to Paris Charles de Gaulle. The wx data files were a couple of hours behind RW so I didn't get to take off in the thunderstorms I'd only narrowly avoided walking home in a little while earlier. The weather was pretty foul over in Paris though and very well reproduced by AS2004. When I think back to earlier versions of FS I realise just how far we've come in the last couple of years or so. I'm just glad I can afford a pc that shows it off to good effect:-)Paul Croft10 miles SE of EGLL Paul Croft 15 mls north of EGKK

My initial load times are 4-5 minutes. This at KORD. I'm on a cable modem with the only internet network traffic coming from AS and the only local network traffic coming from Radar Contact.Sound reasonable ...?Thanks.-michael
August 20, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Michael,4-5 minutes? No, that is too long. I suspect potential local network issues preventing full WideFS performance. Over WideFS I average about 1-2 minutes per update in very dense reporting areas (such as LAX area).Make sure you're on TCP/IP vs. IPX, and you are not using DHCP (Automatically obtain IP addresses). You may also want to turn down your Wideclient and Wideserver.ini timeout settings (I use 10ms).Does that help at all? Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 20, 200421 yr Hi Mike,Nope, are you using the included WideFS?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I have removed all unnecessary background processes as these machines are dedicated to Flight Sim - no other s/w is loaded on these hosts besides what I do to fly and support flying.I do not use DHCP; have set up all my TCP/IP and NIC settings as static settings (not auto-detect settings), and turned off indexing, auto-updates, etc, etc.I will check my timeout settings because I believe I am using whatever is the default.BTW: Your other response confirms that this is a local network problem because my refreshes from cache are also taking 4-5 minutes. Will report back and let you know how I make out.-michael
August 21, 200421 yr Damien,I made some tweaks but could not get my KORD load time down below 4 minutes. However, I tried KLAX and get 1m 30s on the initial load. That equates nicely with your results.Would you do me a favor and try KORD and see if your load times are also around 4 minutes. It might be that KORD is a very dense reporting area.-michael
