June 23, 200520 yr Hi. I have recently bought Active Sky 5. I am very pleased with it and can do the basics such as load real weather and apply the themes in the WX configurator in offline mode. However, I am struggling to work a couple of things out.1. How do you get Active Environment to actually put the weather in the sim? The message says that all is well but no weather ever applies when using Active Environment. I am loading themes and updating sections etc.2. How do you add themes to the WX configurator? So far I have only used the themes to find out whether things are working. I desperately want to increases my choices at this stage. Blizzard and fair etc. is not enough choice. Is this part somehow linked to AE?Thanks for any help, I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious.
June 23, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi, You can use active environment by manual from the Active Environment interface or from the startup option.-ASV Option Startup -ICS + Random Sky/Env ASV will automatically select appropriate cloud textures (based on wx conditions) and randomly select sky and environment textures.-ICS + Last Sky/Env ASV will automatically select appropriate cloud textures (based on wx conditions) and leave all sky/environment textures as previously selected/submitted. You can then manually change the sky/environment textures or leave them alone.-All Random Kind RegardsChris Willis
June 24, 200520 yr I'm still unable to get the settings from Active Environment into the sim.The same thing happens. Apply everything, save and close, the message appears saying I need to restart FS9 but no weather is depicted in game.Online stuff and WX Configurator themes are fine.Really confused. Thanks a lot.
June 24, 200520 yr Hi,AE does not add any weather into FS04, it loads the environmental textures. I am not sure what you mean by "no weather is depicted in the game". Does this mean you don't see clouds and such? Please give us a few more details and we'll be happy to help!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 24, 200520 yr I am still a bit confused about the clouds when using FE. I was told that if you selected the checkbox "ICS + Last Sky/env " , and you last flew with FE, it would use the FE textures and vary only the FE clouds according to the weather. It had previously been my understanding that the only way to insure FE clouds , was to leave the manual checkbox selected. Which is correct? -
June 24, 200520 yr Commercial Member HI Bob,If you are using others than Active environment from ASV, you should check only All manual (No Auto Selection) at asv startup, this will prevent asv using active environment and use others as random before the flight and not related to the condition. If you have selecting others option then All manual , this will always use Active Environment from ASV and not others.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis

Last night, I switched to "CS + Last Sky", and the clouds were outstanding, so it looks like I will leave it that way.
June 24, 200520 yr Having bought ASV, I'm seriously wondering what value there is in keeping FE when the only UNIQUE feature FE seems to offer over ASV is water textures. Don't get me wrong, I think that FE clouds and skys are very nice, but so are ASVs, so why bother having two programs that essentially give the same result, albeit with greater variety. Perhaps I should have bought FS Water instead?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
June 24, 200520 yr With FE my fps were good considering I have everything maxxed out and all I have running. I removed FE and run just ASV and I only miss the water. Now however, my FPS have taken a BIG hit and in heavy clouds can go below 10. One look at the incredible cloud formations and its no wonder. Whats strange is changing the cloud rezes, mipped or not makes no difference that I can tell at all. I downloaded some free water textures with nice reflections so I see no reason to have yet another program added to my already bloated fs2004.
