ASV crashing the sim?

Featured Replies

Hello chapsAs a very happy user of ActiveSky 20004.5, I recently purchased ASV - mostly because of the AE element and AI refresg feature. So, while doing some housekeeping on my flightsim folder, I cleared out the AS 2004.5 folder (despite thinking I'd already done that!) and on loading a fleet, the sim crashed after refreshing AI.So I read this forum, repaired my ASV install. This time after selecting a flight, pressing fly now, I get a black screen, lots of hard drive and CD-ROM drive activity, and a crash. Please help!Rob

I'm curious about this as well. I bought Active Sky for the first time at ASV, and I love it BTW. But ever since if installed it and when I'm using it. I get the same kind of crashes at random times. Usually I can get into a flight just fine and at some point doing something simple that never used to cause a problem, like changing views, will cause FS to go black, lots of disk activity, and than a crash with a request to send a bug report. Any ideas would be apprecieated.

Hi All,These are the first two reports like this, so we need to take this one step at a time. Some things to look at:1. At what % loading or point does FS04 crash?2. What are the details of the error report?3. Have you added any other software to FS04 at the same time?4. Have you tried to set Render to Texture to the opposite setting it is now? Please let us know!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply.I can't give you that information just yet, and am away for two weeks on holiday (vacation) shortly, so will have to look at it when I return!I have suffered from random crashes since installing ASV, and had previously put it down to a scenery/AFCAD/landclass conflict. However, it was after I thought I'd sorted that out, that these new CTDs occurred. So no, no new add-ons installed, ASV has been my most recent. And the first crash occurred after refreshing AI, the second time after I thought the flight had loaded, the FS taskbar appeared, but with a black screen, HD activity, CD-ROM and then crash to desktop. If I get a spare 15 minutes tonight after work, I will try and see if I can replicate it and note the error report.Rob

Hi Jim;For me both times I was well into a flight. ASV and the Rhode Island scenery are the only new addons recently. The most recent crash occured while flying the PMDG 737 and it happen the instant I selected the foward view with no panel, NumPad 5. Usually at that point FS9 has to load the textures for the, panel-obscured, portions of the view. So my suspicion is that it's an errant texture file, maybe in the AE cloud set ( I'm using the 512X512 set currently ) but I'm not sure. It's also only happened to me while flying online with Squawkbox 3 and FS Flight Keeper running. The next time it happens I'll get the details of the error. Regardless of this I absolutely love the product so far, great job.

I've been having a lot of crashes with the sim since I installed ASV, but mine are taking place after the initial weather is downloaded. When I try to get back into the sim via taskbar, the program goes black and crashes. It's the G2D.dll error and this suggests video drive corruption. I have uninstalled, re-installed 3 times and the same thing is happening. It doesn't always happen, but 80 percent of the time it does. I'm not sure what's happening here, I have made an effort to ensure there is no weather writing going on when I try to get back into the program. I don't have the AI function checked either as this always seemed to crash the sim. Is it possible that the crashes could be related to the program somehow? I realize the g2d.dll is fairly specific, but I never, and mean never had the error come up until the ASV was installed. Thoughts?John

Hi Jim, What I did was completely uninstalled ASV. Then I tested the sim on 2 complete flights, and then a series of simple loads with all the extras I have running alongside. Unfortunately, (fortunately) I could not get the sim to crash. I monkeyed around on internet, accessed programs, played other games and everytime I came back to the sim, it popped back up without issue. I purposely attempted to get it to crash, but it would not. I always have 4.5 to fall back on. By the way, I was using active sky with FE, not the Willis clouds. I have an ATI RX800 card with the latest catalyst drivers. Running a 3.4G P4 with 2G of ram. Any help would be appreciatedJohn

Okay, several times, I have started the sim, loaded all the extras, started increasing the workload and still no crashes. I can get back and forth between the desktop and sim without issue. I've tried day and night and nothing. Then, I loaded ASV after all this and I still can't get it to crash. This is good. Jim, I used to start ASV automatically through FSAutostart, could that pose problems of some type?John
