August 14, 200520 yr I'm having an unusual problem (for me) lately in ASV. I'm loading my flights from my real-life home field of Portland Troutdale (KTTD), but no matter what weather we're having, ASV always puts a line of thunderstorms over the Cascade mountains just east of the field. They'd be centered around Hood River, as near as I can tell. Could it be a glitch in the program, or perhaps bad data being sent for that area? Even on days when it's been CAVU in the real world in that area, I'll come home and fire up an FS flight using ASV and see my old buddies the thunderclouds, lightning and all, centered over the same spot. Just curious if there's some obvious fix for this, or if it's a more serious problem.thanks,
August 14, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,It does sound like a station data issue. You should be able to identify the offending station/data by flewing over to the "center" of the tstorm area and checking the closest station ID & METAR report from ASV.There are several things that could be wrong including station being closed, temporarily down, network data issue, unusual METAR format, etc... If you can share the ID/METAR STRING (from closest station report) I could possibly identify what the problem is. Deleting the station entry in wx_station_list.txt would ignore the report and prevent it from being depicted (as a temporary fix).As another possibility, you might have TAF processing enabled and this is throwing you off if the time settings are not proper, or you may be in offline mode and not getting expected real-time current wx. Please also share your ASV.ini so we can confirm all these settings. Thanks!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 14, 200520 yr Author Hi Damian,Thanks for the reply. Naturally, no sooner did I post this than the problem appeared to clear up. It's like when you take your car to the mechanic, but it just won't make that weird pinging sound while he's listening, you know? I'll check all the params you mentioned should it happen again. Thanks for a fantastic program, and great service to back it up!
August 14, 200520 yr Hi Bill,Yes I see what you mean. I tried everything to get those clouds to go away. I didn't get the lighting or the rain, just a line of heavy clouds. But...... I then closed down ASV, cleared the weather and used the FS Real Weather and got the same thing: a line of heavy clouds in the same location. Can you try and do the same? Thanks!Edit: Ugh! In the hour ++ I spent troubleshooting I see the main boss posted and you re-posted!! Well, I couldn't get the line to go away and I tried everything. I even wrote a METAR and applied it globally, and yet the line of clouds still were there. I played around with every cloud/visibility setting that I could think of that might be placing this cloud layer. Well, at least I got to fly around some beautiful scenery with FSG Mesh and UTerrain!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
