September 22, 200520 yr Hi,i have just a short question regarding this new option (which seems to be very helpfull for planes like concorde):When flying from station A with a assumed "ISA +10" temperature to station B with a assumed "ISA -10" temperature, what will happen? Will temperature slowly decrease from "+10" to "-10" while travelling from A to B or will i see a constant ISA of "0" for the whole time? Thanks!best regardsjanosch
September 23, 200520 yr Hi,The manual says consistent so I say +10! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
September 23, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,Consistent, but based on the destination temps. So -10 in this case, for the whole route of flight, including departure.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
September 25, 200520 yr Author Hi,hmmm. Avoids problems with sudden temperature shifts but is not really realistic, is it? :-roll Any chances that this might get changed in a future update (temperature slowly changing from departure value to destination value) ?Thanks for the fast answers. Great support as usual! :-) Best regardsjanosch
September 25, 200520 yr I would rather like a sub-routine to check validity of a large temp shift or a no temp reported, and keep the last valid temp. This feature isn't as critical in areas which have many valid reporting stations, but would be a nice to have feature in the areas which don't have 24-7 coverage or no coverage. I noticed that while flying from Cairo to Dubai with the feature selected TAT was a +1. When I turned it off the TAT went to -11. Both were for FL370.As to the Concorde or any other supersonic aircraft, The TAT will be in the +100 range when at altitude and speed due to excessive friction heating of the sensors. That should be taken into account in the aircraft modeling and air-config file settings. Other sub-sonic aircraft will have some frictional heating....usally in the areas of 20-40 degrees warmer than Outside Air Temp as reported by the Wx stations.I will put it on my personal checklist to continue checking the TAT with the OAT as I fly in the PMDG and LDS aircraft to note what the differences are in the OAT when I get a warmer than expected TAT.Here is a good explanation of the terms as found in another forum."....RAT = Ram Air Temperature = static air temperature + some ram temperature rise. TAT = Total Air Temperature = static air temperature + full theoretical ram temperature rise. When the temperature sensor recovery factor is 1, TAT = RAT. In the picture, at M.85 and FL370: the TAT under ISA temp conditions would be about -25deg C. (-57 (SAT) + 32 (Ram heating)=-25.) The displayed TAT of -17deg C would indicate a temperature of ISA +8 which seems plausible. Regards, Steven."Thanks Damian, Chris and especially Jim for listening and trying to figure this 'gremlin' out.
September 25, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,No way to "smooth" temps like that, thus the reason for the consistent temps to avoid such harsh changes... FSUIPC does not support temp or baro smoothing and external add-ons cannot do this kind of lower-level on-the-fly manipulation of the actual simulated temps. No, it's not completely realistic but neither are instant severe changes. Not sure how to make things better? September 26, 200520 yr Ok, Thanks much Damain. This is still the very best weather addon and I will continue to use it with no hesitation. Maybe someday Microsoft will get it some what right....Thanks for the help and looking into this area.
