Severe Performance Hits

Featured Replies

Hi allI am seeing severe performance hits when Active Sky 5 is updating weather and writting to disk, I fly the premier1 jet and have suppression set to 10000 ft, perhaps I have something misconfigured even when taxing out things were at a stand still but when the weather finally finished writing all was sweet, incidently I am on a 28k connection (all flying done in Australia) which could be causing the severe stutters when weather is loading however active Sky 5 is running at 92 percent processor time, anybody have any ideas on how I can solve this, all runs superb until the weather re loads during the flight then very stuttery until weather loads, thanks to anybody who can help, fantastic program just very painful when weather re loads Pentium4 3 gigs1 gig ramxp proti 4800 video card160 gigs SATARegardsWayne

Hi Wayne,It may be due to antivirus, spyware or firewall software. You might want to try disabling some of it or configuring it to stop watching ASV. Generally there is only a very minor system performance hit during updates which usually occurs for only a split second at the time the actual wx is accepted and depicted by FS (at the end of the write process). The slowness you describe is not normal. Can you tell if this happens only during certain stages of the update process (download, processing, write, radar gen, etc) ?Might also want to try defragging your hard disk, and/or unloading some unused applications/processes during your flights? Best,

Hi DamianI use end it all to kill everything before I fly and have also done a defrag as well. seems to happen when ASV is decrypting and writing to disk, once this completed (Takes up to 15 minutes) the stuttering stops and smooth operations continue both in the air and on the ground, I have removed all asv versions and installed ASV 5 but still see the issue, is it normal for ASV to be up around 90 % percent when this write is occuring, appears to be hogging all the resources when this is occurring. Not using Radar at the moment only real world updates until I can sort out.RegardsWayne

Hi DamianI have sent off some screen shots to the HI Fi support site, I only have a problem when its decrypting and writing to disk, frame rates are cut by more than half until the write finishes about 10-15 minutes, can you please advise what the write is actually doing and why I would be seeing this issue, seems irrespective of the amount of weather, almost 0 weather at ybcg today but still seeing performance issue swhils the data is writing to disk, dont have this problem while its downloading just when writing. Am using the version of FSUIPS that came with ASV5, appreciate your helpRegardswayne

Hi DamianI Have done a bit more testing and this delay happens also when only ASV5 is running so is no way related to FS, I have tried FSauto start to disable all services but once the weather is downloaded still have the same issue of the decrypting killing the performance in FS 2004 plus also taking about 10-15 minutes before it completes where by the frames rates return to normal, this also happens in the air occasionally will be flying along then things grind to a halt, when I tab to ASV5 its writting to disk again, hope that helpsRegardswayne
