October 5, 200520 yr I just installed ASVe on the WideFS client where I was running the last update of ASV. Install went fine, but loading AS produced the following message: "Initialization Error reading files...Please verify your files or re-install."I have been running ASV with no problems since the day it was released, installing updates as they came. I waited on this one until it was out of beta, precisely in order to avoid the problem I am facing now: something that worked well before doesn't work at all now.How can I verify files, and does re-install mean reinstall the new patch or the whole program. If it means the whole program, do I need to install all of the updates, or just the most recent one?
October 6, 200520 yr Hi David,Sorry you are having trouble. This did not come up in testing. You may need to do a re-install cycle. Just install your purchased version and then apply the ASVE update. Please let us know how things are going.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 6, 200520 yr Hi,Ahhh, I'm not the only having having this error. Also using WideFS.It happens during startup at appr. 70-75% of the 'floodbar' filled.I'll try to do a complete new install and report back.EDIT: A reinstall didn't help, so that's why I'm going to try a new installation. October 6, 200520 yr Commercial Member HI,"It happens during startup at appr. 70-75% of the 'floodbar' filled."These are normaly caused by scenery or texture. If you are using DXT clouds. enable render to texture in fs2004 display option, and the 77% CTD will be gone. You can see this thread if this can help:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=21715&page=2ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
October 6, 200520 yr Hi Chris,Thanks for your prompt reply. After I installed the ASV update, I also installed (again) the clouds texture updates (512 & 128) because I thought they were new.Only later I realised that they were the same as the ones released a few months ago. Those textures are thus not mipmapped or converted to DXT yet. Right now I'm at work, but I'll try your suggestion when I'm home and will report back.EDIT: Wait a minute.....I recall that my FS PC wasn't turned on when I tried to start FSV,might that be the problem?Never mind, I know when I get home. October 6, 200520 yr I uninstalled ASV (that took a long time for some reason), then reinstalled it. I then ran the ASVe install program and "repaired" ASVe. ASV at least loads now, though I haven't been able to test it in the air. I had an hour for flying last night, and that hour was spent fixing ASV.
October 6, 200520 yr Hi,I did a full reinstall and now everything is OK.BTW:In my 'Add/Remove programs' I still have some old AS2004 and ASV5 beta entries which cannot be removed (anymore)How can I remove those entries from the list? October 7, 200520 yr Hi,If you try to uninstall them and Windows cannot, then you should be asked if you wish to remove them from the list. If not then a registry edit can be used but we do not recommend that.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
