October 25, 200520 yr Hello,I have a problem regarding surface winds. When I change the weather for a loaded flight with the aircraft standing on the runway (ASV weather was also loaded), the wind is not changed. For example:I start ASV and load the saved weather from 08/20 0800Z. Then I start MSFS and load a situation with the aircraft parked on runway 25R at EDDF and change the date and time manually to 08/20 0800Z. In this case the weather is injected as expected to MSFS. That means, that the ASV METAR and the MSFS METAR for EDDF is equal to the wind information, that is displayed in red at the top of the screen after pressing SHIFT+Z.When I now select another time (09/24 0800Z) in MSFS and press the refresh button of ASV, it gets the saved file from its folder and seems to inject it as expected. That means that the ASV METAR is equal to the MSFS METAR for EDDF. But the wind information, displayed in red at the top of the screen didn't change and shows a difference of 160 degrees. All used weather data files were saved on the HDD and I have selected the follwing options: Online Updates are off, Disable all updates on ground is off, TAF processing is on, Use system time is off, enable offline seq playback is on and Autoset FS time on DL is off. All other options are default. The registered FSUIPC is also set to default. What is the problem?Best regards,Joerg Wilms
October 25, 200520 yr Hi,Turn TAF processing Off.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 25, 200520 yr I have the same problem when TAF processing is off. When using the Wx Configurator, I can also change winds only once after a flight was loaded. I'm testing it with flights, where the aircraft (Cessna) is on the ground. The strange thing is that the MSFS generated METAR (ATIS) is equal to the AktiveSkyV METAR, while the MSFS weather (red wind information after pressing SHIFT+Z) doesn't take the values. Also only the wind is affected. All other values (clouds, temperature, pressure, etc) are set correctly.I have tried reinstalling (regenrating) FSUIPC and it's log, key and ini file. I have no clue, what I can do now!Best regards,Joerg
October 25, 200520 yr Hi,Try clearing the weather though FSUIPC.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 25, 200520 yr I have noticed this sometimes too. If you sit on the runway and a new metar change the winds on the next update this can happen. The winds actually change, but the shift+z wind info is the same as before. If you start flying around it will change though, but it may be off by quite a bit for a while. Yes I know the winds are true and not magnetic, but the difference can be much bigger than the mag var.You can verify the wind with the little program called WeatherSet2 that Pete supplies with his fsuipc.I just ignore it and tell myself its another "feature" of FS :-lol JT
October 26, 200520 yr Hi,that's exactly the same what I experienced too. After some flying around, the winds are actually changing. But I don't want to ignore that, because the wind information displayed on the top of the screen (by pressing SHIFT+Z) represents the ambience you are flying in.So ATIS information and even the windbag next to the runway may indicate a total wrong wind direction resulting in a tailwind takeoff or landing.Last night I tested some more options. Clearing FSUIPC weather, disabling all susppressions, etc didn't change anything and Magnetic variation is only 1 degree at EDDF (where I made the tests). So no luck here. However, I found a solution. When the option "Disable Direct Wind Control" is selected the ambient wind conditions are changing with the ASV injected settings. Can anybody please explain this option and it's influences to me?Best regards,Joerg Wilms /EDDF
October 26, 200520 yr Hi,It is an option that helps with thw wild wind changes we saw when FS04 came out. If it works for you, great! Just depends on your machine.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 27, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,To add to this and clarify a bit..DWC is the solution we used to the problem of FS9 "losing" the correct wind direction over time and when directions shifted counter-clockwise while the aircraft was climbing (there are other scenarios that trigger this as well).DWC should be correctly controlling the wind at all times. It simply forces the actual ASVE-provided wind parameters at all times, and override's FS9's control. By disabling DWC your winds will appear to be correct but after time and in the above cases it will be erroneous. It appears that under certain cirumstances, and when on the ground, when the wind has shifted, the DWC is failing to notice this shift. When you get airborne it is handled differently (by design). In short, it looks like a possible bug but at this point I have not been able to reproduce, so it is apparently also affected by other options/conditions. I will investigate this in detail and attempt to provide a solution. Thanks for the feedback!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
October 28, 200520 yr Hi,thank you all for your help!I noticed, that the error occurs only on the ground and so I'm happy now. I decided to leave DWC on (not checked). My start sequence has solved most problems in operations:At first, I start AVSE with beeing paused and load the weather, that I want to fly in. After starting MSFS and loading my departure position, date and time, I switch back to AVSE and press "REFRESH". This way, there are no more (big) problems with the ground winds, at least when they are not shifting during preflight. While in climb, enroute flight and descent, all wind values are ok.BTW: Today (10/28/2005), here at EDDF, we had CAT3 this morning for real live and for the first time this year. I really enjoyed it in MSFS with ASVE connected by downloading this weather after coming home this evening.Kind reagrds,Joerg
