November 6, 200520 yr Hi gang,What does local range supression do? on or off there is no difference to me. I still get clouds being drawn within about 25 nm of my aircraft in flight... I thought it would have the clouds drawn further away and hence remove any of the fps hit. I'm using reg versin of FSUIPC (latest version from Pete's site).
November 6, 200520 yr Hi,METAR updates are supressed. That way if the local METAR changes those changes do not all of a sudden pop in.To see clouds drawn farther away increase your cloud draw distance in FS04. But this will reduce FPS because more clouds will be on your screen at one time.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
November 12, 200520 yr How does local range supression work with update supression ceiling?Am I correct in thinking that if I have the range turned on to 50 miles it will supress the updates regardless of my altitude?Brad2 miles from KELP/KBIFhttp://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/signature%20tag.jpg
November 12, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi Brad,This is explained (somewhat) in the manual..Local range suppression prevents updates to wx stations within your suppression range, so that wx depiction changes are hidden from view (while beynod your view distance the wx does indeed change and update, so you will fly into the appropriate changing wx).Update suppression prevents any update processes from occuring below the suppression altitude (unless on ground) so that while on approach, for example, you won't have anything causing potential performance hits. Because we have significantly increased the performance of AS processes over the last several versions, this isn't as important as it once was. A low altitude is recommended here such as 4000ft.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
