January 16, 200620 yr I fly around KTPA a bit and it seems I always get a major shift in visibilty when flying around. I'm thinking that an airport nearby is reporting something less than 10 miles and causing it but I have Suppression checked and also Force Destination weather checked. I always plug in my route even if I'm flying KTPA to KTPA. Today, I departed KSRQ which is only about 30 miles south and it was unlimited visibility reported at both airports. Nearing KTPA from the south, vis drops to under 10 miles for a couple minutes, then increases back to unlimited on short final to KTPA. Seems to always happen just south of KTPA. Any ideas??Here is my config settings:[General]WindowPosX = 3510WindowPosY = 1410DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASv6SuppressionCeiling = 15000SurfaceWindLimit = 10FS9Path = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PersonalAppDataFolder = C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataCloudLayerLimit = 3LocalSuppressionRange = 50MinimumVisibility = 0MaximumVisibility = 50LastPlanFolder = NONEAutoVasFrequency = 30AutoVasStrength = 30TurbulenceFrequency = 20DefaultStartupLocation = DefaultGraphicsFullTheme = Wx-InfluencedDefaultGraphicsCirrusTheme = Wx-InfluencedAutoSubmitGraphicsTheme = TrueIncreasedWake = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseForcePrimaryServer = FalseForceSecondaryServer = FalseFavorCumulus = FalseForceRoutePressure = FalseForceLowestCeiling = TrueUnpauseOnReadyStatus = TrueForceTstormsWithCB = TrueAutoSetFSTime = TrueIgnoreFSLocationUntilReady = FalseAutoConvertPlanFiles = TrueAutoRefreshAI = TrueDisableVisGraduation = FalseForceRouteAloftTemp = FalseOfflinePlayback = FalseEnableVAS = TrueAutoGenVAS = TrueForceDestinationWeatherZone = TruePreventIcing = FalseOnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseDisableAllGroundUpdates = FalseGlobalWrites = FalseDepictFS9HazeLayer = FalseExtendTstormLayers = TrueDisableDirectWindControl = FalseVoicePlayback = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = FalseDisableGroundUpdates = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueIgnoreFSReadyStatus = FalseFSUIPCWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = FalseLimitCloudLayers = TrueAutoGlobalWriteToggle = FalseRainWithTS = TrueDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = TrueAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 60VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = -5AloftPredictability = 100WindDriftRate = 0MaxCloudThickness = 6000MinStratusSeparation = 8000TAFProcessing = TrueEnforceVisibilityLimits = TrueWakeTurb = FalseStartPaused = TrueUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEEric
January 16, 200620 yr Hi,Suggestions:Lower your Supression Ceiling, 4000 may be betterFog Layer Generation OffForce Lowest Ceiling OffForce destination weather zone OffHope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 16, 200620 yr Jim- Thanks for the quick reply. I adjusted the settings but ran into the same issue. I believe the METAR at KMAF (Macdill AF Base) is causing the issue. It seems they frequently report 7 mile visibilty so when you near the field the vis drops to about 7 miles and hazy. Once I pass it and get closer to KTPA which is reporting 10 miles, it jumps back up to unlimited. It was my understanding that having the 'Force Dest WX Xone' checked would prevent something like that as long as you have the route plugged in. I had the same effect with it checked and unchecked. I haven't ran into this issue at other airports like I have around Tampa.
January 16, 200620 yr Hi,You are correct, put that option back On. If you fly alot in that area you can disable KMAF.Not sure why the Force Destination is not working here.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 16, 200620 yr Edit: Badge, sorry for my reply. I forgot that you and I were already in a thread about this. Let's keep things in that one thread OK!!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 16, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi,To use force destination wx zone, you must have this option enable BEFORE your flight, while on the ground at your departure airport, with flight plan loaded and at least one wx update completed. If you try and change this option mid-flight it will have no effect.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 17, 200620 yr I removed the Air Force base (KMCF) that is a few miles south of KTPA and tried a few flights (KSRQ-KTPA) and did not have the problem. I have always had 'Force Dest WX' enabled so I'm still unclear on why the weather should change that abrubtly near the destination but it has only been an issue at this airport that I've seen. Thanks for the help!Eric
