Destination & Active runway

Featured Replies

Hi All,As i use ASv6 with online updates for all my flying, what I would like to know. Is there anyway of finding out the weather at my destination & finding out which is the active runway in use for landing at my destination?I would like to know this information before I depart my chosen airport so I can programme my arrival into the aircraft FMC.Many thanksMike

Well a couple of points;1. In the real world, and with AS6, you should not assume that the weather at your destination will be the same when you depart as when you arrive. So it's not likely that you'll be able to know the weather at your destination untill your close.2. There are several factors, weather being one of them, that determine the 'active' runway. So again there's usually no way to know what the active runway will be untill your pretty close to your destination. So, go ahead a program into the FMC an arrival that makes sense for your route of flight. But always be prepared to change things as conditions warrant as you get closer to your destination. In the real world ATC near the destination will often assign the arrival or make changes to your clearance. And the runway is usually not assigned until you are talking to approach control.

I should have added, though, that if your are using AS6, you can tune one of your comm radios to 122.0 and you'll receive 'AS flightwatch radio' reports. These reports include the destination weather, assuming you've entered your flightplan into AS6.
