April 9, 200620 yr The storms seem much smaller than real world. For example, I flew a SWA route between KBWI and KMCO yesterday at FL400 which was just East of a very active front. Lots of red being painted on real world doppler, and I was using ASv6 Wx Engine connected on line with 10 min updates. The storms were visible but looked more like scattered summer showers than an active front.I have flown real world in same conditions, except I'm between 16000-FL240 in a piston twin. The storms are awesome, and seem to form a wall as far as you can see. Granted I'm twice as high at FL400 but these storms typically have tops exceeding that. However, those that I saw on yesterdays sim flight, and several others in similar conditions, were not very impressive. The KBWI-KMCO route is mostly over land, with many reporting wx stations along the way; data gaps shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure how much data you harvest. METARS/TAFs and FA (winds) are obvious but these along don't provide storm heights, which I retrieve real world from radar summaries. I assume your product doesn't; however, isn't there a way to improve the fidelity of these storm systems? Thanks, Dan Downs KCRP
April 9, 200620 yr Hi,Thanks for the feedback. We understand what you are saying and we are limited by what FS04 can do. It is mostly the atmospheric conditions that set the cloud tops. Also, cumulus textures to that height would be a killer on the FPS on most systems. Make sure Extend Thunderstorm Layers is On and that may help.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
April 10, 200620 yr Author I understand... I guess there're many of us hoping FSX does a better job. I am surprised that big storms would drain FPS, but I don't really understand the details. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the response. Thanks, Dan Downs KCRP
