I'm not seeing an undercast

Featured Replies

I have my Active Sky set pretty much to the settings suggested in the thread to get a realistic weather look. I have seen a good overcast multiple times. The problem is once I fly through it it seems to go away. I can clearly see the ground from on top. I have seen a couple screen shots of planes flying on top of the overcast layer but I haven't seen it on my machine. Any thoughs?

Hi Tom,See if you truly have and OVC code in the METAR. If not, then you are seeing the way that FS04 handles low visibilities. Also, make sure that Cumulus vs Stratus is Off.Please let us know!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

The day I tred to figure this out the reports from Ontario all the way to Los Angeles all showed overcast. I had Active Sky open on my second montior to see what it showed while I flew. The metars across the top of the FS screen also showed overcast. I wanted to make sure there were a lot of stations around that were showing overcast so I didn't get a limited area. Fortunatly we have been getting out June Gloom in May so I have large areas of foggy overcast. It always looks as I would expect when I am below or in the fog. Once on top I can it just seems to go away everywhere.I also tried slewing the plane above and below the clouds with no forward motion so I stayed in the same area. I had the same result.I definitely have the favor cumulus over stratus unchecked.

Hi,Do you recall if the METARs were also reporting many other layers? If two ceilings are reported in close proximity to each other, they can "cancel each other out" by not providing enough cloud thickness for the true desired lowest ceiling. That is when the option "Force Lowest Ceiling" can come in handy. However, being based in the SoCal region and flying here often (defaults), I haven't experienced such bad representation of overcast layers. Confirm you have 100% 3D clouds / cloud density set in FS9 display options? Sometimes FS9 can also limit the amount of clouds drawn if you have other settings cranked up high (leaves less room for cloud draws). The most important setting here is frame rate lock.. always enable it, at never more than 25fps.Finally, what are you using in ASG for clouds? Lots of variation here, so it is possible to have a much 'thinner' type of cloud chosen. Suggest manually selecting/submitting a new cloud theme (without auto-submits enabled) just to rule this out. Any of the included cloud themes should be sufficient for a nice thick representation.Does this help? If you need further assistance, please include some screenshots so we can get an idea of what you are seeing. Thanks!
