Instant Visibility Reductions

Featured Replies

Hi, I have experienced rapid visiblity reductions when flying into certain airports. After reading a bit in this forum, it seems that they are caused by military observations and a "max 7 mile visibilty" rule they have. Is there any way currently, or perhaps a plan for the future, to be able to disable the military weather reports from being loaded...or maybe at least ignore the visibility information they provide? It is very annoying to be on a visual final and then all of the sudden be in a thick soup and not be able to see the airport. Thanks,Keith

Hi Keith,That is one reason at a few airports. The major reason is the way FS04 deals with visibility transitions. If you move into an area of less than 10SM this is possible. What airports are you seeing this at?We are really waiting to see how FSX works in this area.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Hi Jim,Yes, I am aware of the FS visibility "bug" in regards to how quickly the transitions occur. I guess I was hoping for a way to eliminate or subdue the inaccurate military data. I have noticed this happening most recently flying into KSAN, KGEG, KSEA, and KSLC. I know that KSAN, KGEG, and KSEA have military bases nearby so I assume that is what is causing the change...it's fairly consistant with those airports when arriving from a certain direction (near the bases). Maybe I'll have to set the minimum visibility so the effect is not as noticable, though I want to keep low visibility when it is truly low. Thanks,Keith

Hi,If you know the code of the bases, you can delete them from your airport and wx station files in the ASv6 folder. Please backup those files before changing them.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Yes that's exactly what I was wanting to do, disable the problem military bases from loading...it seems to do the trick. Thanks for your help,Keith

Hello all, I tried removing the military bases from the airport and wx stations list. It stops the visibility from reducing but it also won't update the altimeter. Actually the altimeter always resets to standard 29.92. Even if the closest reporting station is different. Is there anyway to have the station you remove use the closest reporting station for all its wx or force it to use the wx from the closest facility?

Hi,Removing the stations acts the same as if the stations did not even exist. Then the data from the closest stations will be used. Were you above 18K?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Thanks for the quick reply Jim. I was on the ground at KNHK and at KNTU. Both airports were using the nearest reporting station nearby and I was getting the sky condition (clouds),visibility and wind, but was not getting the altimeter setting loaded in the sim. It would show me the altimeter setting in the Metars report on the ActiveSky program but would not load the information into FS9.

Hi,Attach your 2 modified files. I would like to take a look!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

This is not correct Jim. By removing the station it will not have any weather applied to it. This result in a gap in the weather(clear sky ISA conditions). As long as a station exist in FS it has to have some weather applied to it for the area to be depicted correctly.Only way to fix this would be for the data server to ignore the metar for the station, and have weather generated for it based on nearby stations.Damian pointed out this problem to me when I was trying to remove obsolete duplicates from the list. They were still in FS, but basically on top of eachother. It destroyed the weather completely because the two stations had different weather.

Thanks JT!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
