September 22, 200619 yr Since installing SU5 my flights have become very smooth...too smooth ;-) Previously I had tweaked the fs config file to get a turbulence setting I liked and I would get on almost every flight, weather dependent of course, some mild turbulence. Installtion of SU5 didn't change my AS settings. Is there something I missed, or need to change, to bring back the turbuluence. I don't have auto generated VAS on, but didn't before either, just left it to be weather dependent. Mike
September 22, 200619 yr Hi Mike,I checked the revisions document just to be sure and we didn't make any changes AFAIK. Do you have turbulence frequency and strength bot set to 100?Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 23, 200619 yr Author Previously had the freq set to 80 and I'll change to 100 and see what happens. What do mean by "strength bot"? Is that the VAS auto strength? Since I have auto VAS turned off, I assume that isn't what you are referring to. I'll keep you updated. Thanks Mike
September 23, 200619 yr Hi,That is a mis-type so just ignore that!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 24, 200619 yr Author Found the problem: A week ago my 14 year old nephew was visiting and he was introduced to the world of flight simming. He is definitely hooked. Over many hours of his learning the sim on my system, he apparently decided that turbulence was not something he liked so he went into the settings and globally disabled all the turbulence. Moral: never leave a teenager alone with your computer ;-) Mike
September 24, 200619 yr Im just curious, what is the recomended setting for turb freq? I seem to get too much turbulence at the cruise no matter what, its basically a light chop that continues for the entire flight. Clear skies, virtually no wind, no cirrus, no pireps or turbulence and no airmets or sigmets either. But when flying low and in clouds there is waay to little turbulence. Any sugestions?
September 25, 200619 yr Hi,50 is the default and many use that value. Remember that Auto VAS and Strength can seem to add to this also. You may need to experiment with those values.I hope this helps you,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 25, 200619 yr Author I'm using a setting of 80. I also have auto VAS disabled. I tweaked the fs config file turbulence setting until I found a value, along with the AS setting of 80 that gave me what I liked. I'm currently using 1.1 in the fs config file. Just play around with the AS/fs settings to see what values give you what you want. Mike
September 25, 200619 yr I've been spending more time playing around with settings these days than actually flying....
September 27, 200619 yr Im just curious on which settings control turbulence at the cruise and which control turbulence when in a cloud. From my experience the turbulence within the cloud should be turned up quite a bit, and turbulence outside of clouds in stable weather should be turned down, or not allowed to occur as often.
September 27, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,ASv6 already does that, significantly increasing both the chance and strength of cloud turb compared to general air turb. There are many triggers and influence factors, for example gusts at the surface, low air stability, large variations in wind direction and/or speed between aloft layers (i.e. jetstream), temperature, terrain, etc... All of this can effect the overal turbulence chosen. But in general you'll have at least 3 times less likely chance of turbulence occuring in clean air than in cloud (with cumulus being more turbulent than stratus). This all then gets affected by your settings. If you've seen more or less turbulence lately it most certainly will be because of changing weather conditions.Unfortunately at the moment there is not a way to independantly change settings for cloud/general air turb but is something we are moving towards.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
