New Zealand station coverage

Featured Replies

>Yep. My guess it NOAA only receives AA CH and WN as they're>pretty much the only ones used by U.S. aircraft.I'm not sure thats why. Pretty much all stations in Norway are covered at NOAA. Last I checked only US airline flying here was Continental into Gardermoen (ENGM) once a week.Problem could be either NOAA not fetching them or MetService not reporting them publicly. The NOAA list of wx stations for NZ is not big and also quite old, but there are at least a few more than the 3 we usually get in Active Sky. http://adds.aviationweather.gov/metars/stations.txt

The larger problem seems to be that AS is not using the VATSIM feed reports for all the New Zealand locations you listed above even when they do exist.Example: create a route from NZAA (Auckland) to NZQN (Queenstown). Even with 'VATSIM Online Weather' enabled the weather used for NZQN in AS is always the weather from NZCH, despite the fact that there is a valid METAR for NZQN (and 33 other NZ* locations) published on the VATSIM server every hour. You can see a snapshot of the different NZ METAR reports currently active on the VATSIM servers at: http://www.vatnz.net/wxInterestingly though, I just used the Wx Finder to display all the reports it has for NZ* and it returned: 1: NZAA 180300Z 23012KT 30KM FEW030 BKN045 22/13 Q1016 NOSIG RMK HZ 2: NZCH 180400Z 05008KT 020V080 20KM SCT020 BKN035 17/12 Q1019 NOSIG RMK HZ VATSIM 3: NZOH 082000Z 33007KT 300V020 60KM FEW025 18/13 Q1011 NOSIG 4: NZWN 180300Z 16014KT 20KM FEW025 SCT029 18/12 Q1019 NOSIG RMK KAUKAU 17017KT HZ 5: NZWP 180400Z 24010KT 30KM FEW035 BKN044 21/13 Q1016 RMK VATSIM USE ONLYFinished searching...Note, that two of the reports are from the VATSIM server while the others aren't (including a very out of date report from Ohakea (NZOH) - and again the up-to-date NZOH report is currently on the VATSIM server). Not knowing anything about the innards of AS it's hard to say for sure, but it looks from the outside like there may be an issue in terms of when/if it is using the VATSIM data.I hope this helps,Nick
