November 27, 200619 yr Hi,Anyone use this product for New Zealand? I've heard the data comes from the NOAA server which only holds metar's for NZAA, NZWN and NZAA, and not the other 20-odd reported stations. This wouldn't be much use with the huge variations in weather you get around here over a relatively short flying distance.I currently use fsmetar, which certainly does improve on the default wx, though it is somewhat basic. In fsmetar, I can also choose vatsim weather, which is hopelessly behind. (now showing 232100Z for NZNV, whereas 270200 should be current). If all else fails, is there a way to manually enter the correct metar's I have obtained? How about TAF's for the taf processing?Any info would be appreciated! Thanks
November 27, 200619 yr Hi,Thanks for your interest!1. No, we haven't used NOAA servers for years now. We have our own private data collection network with multiple data sources.2. Here is a list of the 17 stations:NZAANZCHNZCINZCMNZDNNZGSNZHKNZKINZNPNZNVNZOHNZPPNZRNNZRONZTGNZWNNZWP3. You can manually enter weather data through our WX Configurator. No, you cannot import weather files.4. We do use TAFs for TAF processing. It is not impossible to enter these, but it is a lot of work.I hope this answers your questions,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
November 28, 200619 yr I can confirm that AS is very good in NZI use it a fair bit down there as I have been several times(even though I live in UK) and have done quite a few real life internal flights.Even the infamous Windy Wellington "Kaukau winds"( 2000 foot)show up pretty well.
May 26, 200719 yr Hi There,Sorry to bring this old topic back up but it saved starting a new one. Is there any chance of more stations being added to this list to give complete NZ coverage? Especially in the South Island where the weather varies a lot. Some of the ones that would be great to see:NZQN - QueenstownNZMF - Milford SoundNZNS - NelsonNZWB - WoodbourneNZMC - Mount CookNZTU - TimaruAlso in the North Island:NZHN - HamiltonNZPM - Palmerston NorthNZWR - WhangereiNZAP - TaupoNZNR - NapierNZWU - WanganuiNZWK - WhakataneMETAR info for these airports is all freely available. Keep up the good work!
May 26, 200719 yr For ASX I think this is not a problem.ASv6 is a different matter though. Damian did manage to add the pseudo stations so its not impossible. However I doubt he is willing to spend to much time adding things to an older version. At least not untill ASX is out and all issues are fixed.I've asked for a few things to be improved/added, but it has yet to happen. I believe its due to the heavy rewrite of program and server code required to make them happen ;)No plans to move to FSX here in the forseable future, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
June 24, 200718 yr I only get NZCH, NZWN, NZAA, and NZOH, is there any way to fix this?I know all those stations should be avaliable, but they're not :-hmmm Thanks for your help in advance ;)Matthew
June 24, 200718 yr Yes it's highly frustrating when these METAR's are available through Vatsim weather. Ticking the use Vatsim weather, and making a flightplan for say NZWN(Wellington)-NZDN(Dunedin) it will still say the flightplans destination weather is NZCH(Christchurch). Is there any way we can use the vatsim weather but put it directly through the excellent AS6.5 weather engine? That way it would give us superior coverag throughout NZ.

June 25, 200718 yr Thanks for replying,I'm using AS 6.5.When I "Fetch a Report" for NZDN or NZQN I get NZCH metar.I have "VATSIM Online Weather" and "Online Updates" ticked in the Options, and I created a route NZDN - NZQN, and got NZCH metar. I did get "winds aloft by waypoint" for the airports though.When I use "Wx Finder" with an ID prefix of "NZ" I get: 1: NZAA 250600Z 23021KT 10KM VCSH SCT025CB SCT045 BKN065 11/09 Q1011 TEMPO 6000 SHRA 2: NZCH 250600Z 23009KT 40KM FEW030 SCT042 BKN060 05/M02 Q1013 NOSIG 3: NZOH 241600Z 28014KT 25KM SCT030 11/07 Q1004 NOSIG 4: NZWN 250600Z 20027KT 20KM SHRA SCT025 BKN033 08/02 Q1010 TEMPO 6000 SHRA RMK KAUKAU 19037KT 5: NZWP 230000Z /////KT 30KM VCSH SCT040 15/08 Q1004 TEMPO 6000 SHRA SCT020CBFinished searching...Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated ;)Matthew
June 25, 200718 yr Not much we can do here. Only Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch is reporting regularily.
June 25, 200718 yr That's certainly not true. I myself put out 9 reports for NZNV today. I think I'd be getting a call by now if I hadn't!
June 25, 200718 yr Hi,That is true, but our multiple sources of data may not be getting your reports.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
June 25, 200718 yr If you say so :DGuess NOAA is not picking up most of these then :)Shame on them!Jimmatc, if you got a source they can use I'm sure there would be a lot of happy simmers out there ;)
June 25, 200718 yr Yep. My guess it NOAA only receives AA CH and WN as they're pretty much the only ones used by U.S. aircraft.NZ private pilots can access weather through ifis (http://www.ifis.airways.co.nz) or metflight: (http://metflight.metra.co.nz/MetFlight.php)As N.Z. ATC report these under contract to the Metservice (http://www.metservice.co.nz) I wonder if it would be worthwhile contacting them to see if a full set of metar's can be obtained in a suitable format.
