Unencrypt Step 4 error on Vista

Recommended Posts

Hi,I'm running Windows Vista Business RTM, and trying to run ASv6.5 with FSX. After AS downloads the weather, it pops up a dialog box with the following:Error accessing internal components (Unencrypt step 4 - . Please run the 'Repair' option via the ASv6 setup.exe to replace required files.I have tried the 'Repair' option to no avail. Is the some permissions issue with Vista's security? It seems to work well enough if I just hit "OK" on the box, but task switching to do that every 15 minutes becomes rather annoying, and is likely to lead to some instability I fear.Any suggestions?-stefan

Replying with some more data.THis is using the 536 build, as that's all that works with Vista at all. The error occurs at the end of the "Decrypting Weather Data" portion, and after hitting OK it proceeds fine with ....Synthesizing Weather Data.... and seems to work fine after that.-stefan

Hi,Sorry for the problem. I will point Damian to this, as I do not know anything about the workings of Vista yet.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi Stefan,First a little disclaimer... we haven't officially tested AS with Vista internally at any level, although we do have at least a small portion of users running with it as far as we are aware, including some internal beta team members. We are on schedule to begin full Vista testing as soon as it is officially released which I expect will happen in the next couple months. In the mean time, a little background about the error.. it means that CHILKATZIP2.dll cannot be found or loaded by the application, which it depends on for decryption and decompression of downloaded weather data. When you get such an error, the last good decrypt/decomp data should be taking over, so although it appears to work after "OK"ing it, it is probably old data being loaded.Usually this error is caused (on WinXP setups) due to certain "less popular" anti-spyware software packages giving a false-positive on the chilkatzip2.dll file and automatically deleting it. If you don't have any specific ASW software loaded, it may be vista itself either flagging false-positive as spyware or doing some other kind of automated disabling of such component/control.I will try and find some more information over the next few days, but perhaps some others running Vista already might have encountered this or have other insight as to what the problem is and any potential solutions. Sorry I couldn't be of more immediate help but hang in there, we'll get it sorted soon enough!Best,

Damian I got the same error yesterday too for the first time on XP via widefs and I have the chilkatzip2.dll at the root of my AASV6 folder. Oddly thats the only file in the root folder, is that correct or should it be in the ASV6 folder thats in the modules folder? Just wanted to let you know as this happened to me the same day as Stefan and I have been running smoothly for quite sometime til now.I can post my issue in a seperate topic if needed let me know.

Hi,It looks like your antivirus got your file. Do a Repair install and the file should end up in the main FS folder. Then let's see what happens. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hmm, I did another 'Repair' option with the ASv6 setup, and then reinstalled the ASv6.5 build 536 update, and now I'm getting no errors. I'm guessing Vista just blocked something the first time, but now stuff seems to work after a few reinstalls. I'll keep an eye out to see if it keeps complaining. Thanks for the help,-stefan

Guest Twista90

For the ASV6 team or anyone else that probably gonna have this problem. The way to fix it is by right clicking on the program and selecting run as administrator. This is a problem with alot of games out there or programs. Vista doesn't want to run the programs with admin privileges so it denies access to some of the modules or things that are needed to be able to run with the game or program. So far Ive had to do this with about 6 games and applications. I dont know if theres a way around this but thats a temp fix for now.
