February 17, 200818 yr Hi All.I hate to sound silly or anything, but I must admit I'm a tad confused.I live in the Midlands here in the UK, and wondered what and where ASV gets it's weather settings / up-dates from. The reason I ask this is because we have had some pretty nasty weather lately. Last night for example was Minus 10C, and yet in ASV6.5 I was getting +1Also, there was a huge covering of Fog that pretty much covered the whole of the midlands, and yet ASV did not represent this,Tonights weather is set to be pretty much the same, -10C and a massive covering of Fog that is set to cover from Bristol right up to Liverpool. Can anyone tell me please if I have anything set wrongly, perhaps this is the cause. And, can anyone explain what the "up-dates will not occur this close to user plane" actually means, IE if I make this smaller / larger in distance will this make things more accurate. Thanks for any help and advice, although I suspect that this will of course come from "The Man" Jim himself. If it does, then Thank you Jim.PS I will post my ini file details below.//ASv6.5 configuration file Build 552[General]WindowPosX = 5490WindowPosY = 3135DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASv6SuppressionCeiling = 2000SurfaceWindLimit = 10FS9Path = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PersonalAppDataFolder = C:Documents and SettingsStephen WilliamsonApplication DataCloudLayerLimit = 4LocalSuppressionRange = 10MinimumVisibility = 0MaximumVisibility = 60AutoVasFrequency = 0AutoVasStrength = 0TurbulenceFrequency = 100DefaultStartupLocation = EGBBDefaultGraphicsFullTheme = DefaultGraphicsCirrusTheme = AutoSubmitGraphicsTheme = FalseIncreasedWake = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseForcePrimaryServer = FalseForceSecondaryServer = FalseGEProAutoSubmit = TrueUseFetchedStationforGEPro = TrueShowDecodedMBasDecimal = FalseSkyOverride = GEPROFavorCumulus = TrueForceRoutePressure = FalseForceLowestCeiling = FalseUnpauseOnReadyStatus = TrueDisableWriteThrottle = FalseDisableProcessThrottle = FalseForceTstormsWithCB = TrueAutoSetFSTime = FalseIgnoreFSLocationUntilReady = TrueAutoConvertPlanFiles = TrueAutoRefreshAI = FalseDisableVisGraduation = FalseEnableGEProWideFSMode = FalseExtendedThrottling = FalseForceRouteAloftTemp = FalseOfflinePlayback = TrueEnableVAS = FalseAutoGenVAS = FalseForceDestinationWeatherZone = TruePreventIcing = TrueOnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseDisableAllGroundUpdates = FalseGlobalWrites = TrueDepictFS9HazeLayer = TrueExtendTstormLayers = TrueDisableDirectWindControl = FalseVoicePlayback = FalseLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = FalseDisableGroundUpdates = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueIgnoreFSReadyStatus = TrueFSUIPCWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = FalseLimitCloudLayers = TrueAutoGlobalWriteToggle = TrueRainWithTS = TrueDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = TrueAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 8VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = 0AloftPredictability = 100WindDriftRate = 0MaxCloudThickness = 10000MinStratusSeparation = 1500TAFProcessing = TrueEnforceVisibilityLimits = TrueWakeTurb = FalseStartPaused = TrueUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONELastPlanFolder = C:Documents and SettingsStephen WilliamsonMy DocumentsFlight Simulator Files Steve. February 17, 200818 yr Commercial Member Hi there,Your settings look OK, however I would recommend suppression range of 50nm vs. 10nm. I assume you are flying GA-style flights. This is the range at which updates will be 'suppressed' or 'prevented' to stations within this range. This prevents visible cloud formation shifts. The area outside this range receives regular updates. If you are flying in the SAME area for an extended time period, then per your settings, everything within the suppression range will remain 'stale'. Suppression also is affected by the ceiling, which you have at 2000ft. Updates will STOP when below this altitude. Again if you are flying below this altitude, everything will remain 'stale'. Thus, for 'local area' flights where you are not going anywhere, we recommend turning local suppression off or setting the suppression ceiling very low below your pattern altitude. As to the original problem of data being inaccurate, we'd need to look at the station(s) in question. If you can report what the METAR is indicating (cut and paste here) we can compare.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies

February 18, 200818 yr Commercial Member Hi,So you are saying that the METAR is being represented accurately, but the METAR is wrong? The METARs come from the airports themselves, so this is most certainly not the case. How are you comparing / what are you comparing against?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
February 19, 200818 yr Author Hi Damien.I had just returned from BHX when I set up that flight, and it was not 7000 Meters,or 4 SM visibility, it was pretty much fogged in with about 100m vis. also the temperature was -10, not the reported -5C.I know it might seem nit-picky, but there is quite a big visual difference from these two, and of course the aircraft parameters would have been effected quite significantly too. Thanks for any advice on this. February 19, 200818 yr Commercial Member Hi,Ok so you are showing that your data is proper, and all reports are proper, but the actual depiction in the sim is not matching. Is this correct? What does ATIS report (FS internal ATIS)?What does the FS weather dialog (custom user-defined local station for BHX) say?How are you noting that temperature is -10 vs -5? Are you using a gauge on a certain aircraft? What about visibility, how are you comparing?Hoping to get some documented discrepancies here so we can confirm there is a mismatch, then can figure out what the problem is and a potential solution. If you can come up with some reproduction steps (indicate the date/time of the weather and location + any flight plan used) documenting the problem and mismatch I can try it here on this end and advise. Thanks!
