February 22, 200323 yr I understand that the landing competition is going to be held at the next AVSIM Conference in September at the MAAM. I assume that this will only be conducted on-site at the conference and not online. As far as the landing competition is concerned, what will be the parameters for determining the winner, what airport will be used, are will the results be measured? I am sure that if there is an ounce of competitive spirit within any flight sim pilot, they will want answers to the above questions so they can practice, practice, practice, etc. Fortunately, I live on a couple of hours from the MAAM site, and my family plans to be there for the WWII weekend in June and the conference in September.Anxiously waiting for the answers!Keith
February 24, 200323 yr Gee, no response over the weekend! I guess I must have asked the $64000 question. Have the details of the landing competition not been worked out yet? Just curious!Hope my Briefing Time CD arrives today. Can't wait to see the whole plane, VC and et al!Keith
February 24, 200323 yr Commercial Member Sorry, Keith. It's a question Tom or one of his AVSIM staffers will have to answer. We only learned of the selection of 'BT' for the competition aircraft a week or so ago and I have never seen one of these before. Tom, too, must be having a busy weekend or he would have weighed in. I'll shoot him an e-mail and ask his to respond. We at MAAM are just jumping for joy to have our plane and homebase as the subjects of the contest, and our museum as the venue for the Convention! Here let Jan, Fred, Rob, Russ,Pete, and me demonstrate... :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
February 24, 200323 yr B25 in a landing competition??? Didn't get my vote. I would have voted for a C17 landing at the AVSIM Bush Aerodrome's grass runway with a full load..... But that's another story... :)Anyway, and seriously, I am sure that Marty has not yet worked out all the details. What you know is what I know, and admittedly, that ain't much. I am sure that as we get closer to the date of the convention, that we'll be putting out scenarios, scenery and what have you for folks to practice with (as we did last year for the engine-out flight into South Lake Tahoe.
February 24, 200323 yr Tom,Thanks for the feedback! I look forward to seeing the details of the competition. I just hope it won't be one of those, flaps have been all shot to hell, low on fuel, right engine out, 1 mile visibility, wing on a prayer type of scenarios. Gee, I think I just described what my great uncle had to go through getting his crippled B-25 back home.Should be exciting in any event! Can't wait!Keith
February 24, 200323 yr Keith, you just described *my* suggested scenario for the competition, but I would also include .5 mile visibility with rain to add a little to the adventure. :)
