June 4, 200422 yr Hi Bill & all,I realise that now the new CD is out (and I've ordered my copy) there won't be much interest in previous versions (I've got them all), but I'm having a problem with the A/P. I'm not talking about the Sperry (bless it's cotton socks) but the modern illegitimate one. When I first installed it it seemed to work ok but now when I set altitude and/or heading the altitude jumps in 1000 increments and heading in 10deg increments. To my knowledge I've not changed anything.Has anyone else come across this problem and what's the cure? Thanks, Barrie.:-hmmm PS Default Cessna works fine as do other aircraft
June 4, 200422 yr Hi Barrie,This sounds like the old "controlled accelleration" problem to me, the best fix for which is to run a registered copy of FSUIPC.If its only happening to the R4D and nothing else you may consider it worth doing a re-install.Cheers,Alastair
June 4, 200421 yr Hi Alastair,I'm much obliged for your helpful reply. You hit the nail on the head on both counts. I said I hadn't done anything that might have caused the problem, but what had transpired was that I had been forced to do a system restore because of other problems not related to FS. Much to my surprise when I came to run FS, FSUIPC was no longer displaying so I reinstalled it (remembering to first delete the dll. file in Modules). Therefore it would appear that this upset a few other things including R4D.I have now re-installed R4D and it now works correctly. I have to say though it baffles me why this should have affected just this aircraft. The vaguaries of computers are never ending, so it seems, and they remain for ever in the realms of black magic as far as I'm concerned. It has always mystified me why we need FSUIPC anyway. I know it has a lot of options in it and I found I had to reset most of them after I had re-installed FSUIPC.Also why is it that a system restore doesn't restore everything as it was. I thought that was it's purpose.Never mind we're back on track, awaiting the next crisis which I'm sure will happen. That's how it's been ever since I've had a computer. Should be used to it by now. Thanks again, Barrie
June 4, 200421 yr Barrie,A system restore does what it says on the tin - it restores the `system`, not necessarily the files on that system. So you can expect most operating system probs to get fixed, but you will still have to `tinker` to get things back to normal. As a recent example I installed XP SP2 latest build and lost the ability to run .avi files through Windows Media Player. There is a problem with a codec somewhere and you can't just delete the Codec as it doesn't reveal itself by way of an error message. I used system restore and when I got everything back up and running I still had to reinstall Diskeeper defragmenter as it wouldn't recognise the installation. You're right. That's computers for you :)Allcott
June 4, 200421 yr Hi Allcott,Thanks, I've got the idea, so I won't do a system restore unless it's absolutely necessary. Mind you as you say sometimes there's no choice. At least I now know what to expect. Not only did it upset R4D but all my yoke buttons were inoperative and had to be re-programmed. Great fun!At present I run version 2.974 of FSUIPC and I'm wondering if I should update that. I believe the latest is not freeware but when I install FS2004 I also think I will have to update FSUIPC anyway. Is that right?Barrie
June 5, 200421 yr You don't NEED FSUIPC for FS2004, but, as with FS2002, it sure helps. The latest version is now payware but well worth the money in my opinion. As the versions progress you get more and more facilities, so with the latest you do get a lot of "bang for your buck".If you run the latest version unlicenced it still works but you do not have access to all the tabbed tweaks.Cheers,Alastair
June 5, 200421 yr Hi Alastair,Thanks for you help and advice. It's like MAAM you don't have to have it, but, by God, aren't you missing a lot without it.All the Best, Barrie :-) :-) :-)
June 5, 200421 yr What your missing Ed is FSUIPC. Helpful I know, but a truly INTERESTED spectator would already have plugged that into one of the search engines, or the search system here at Avsim, and would already know what they need to know. Meanwhile, back at the ranch. Barrie, you probably wouldn't need to reset all your yoke settings if the same thing had happened in FS9 - in the same folder as the FS9.cfg you will find a file called FS9.cfg.txt. It's a backup of the last FS9.cfg you wrote, so would probably have included your settings. Much better than FS2002 for backups!Allcott
June 5, 200421 yr I was going to let the reply by Barrie slip by with no other comment and maybe I should, however in 72 years I haven't let too many of these snide remarks pass without a response. Why am I using this forum? No one asked me why I wanted to be a member only to obey the rules and be courteous. I really think I'm qualified. I served 4 years in the USAF 1950-1954. Was a B-29 crew member in Korea flying 13 missions, served as an ECM instructor on a C-47, equipped as a training facility. I have 3 of the previous CD's from MAAM and have ordered the latest R4D-6. I have all the simulators 95 thru FS9, including the combat flight simulators and am interested in preserving the old aircraft of World War 2 era. If that doesn't qualify for a forum membership, please notify the forum manager and have me removed.Have a good dayEd WorkmanWaverly, OhioUSA
June 6, 200421 yr Well if you're that old...http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmlEd, it is impolite to invade another thread to pose an unrelated question when you have nothing to contrbute to the question at hand. It is impolite to ask a question irrelevant to a particular forum and it shows absolutely no respect to your fellow user to ask us them to do that which you are perfectly capable of doing for yourself,War record or not.Enjoy your R4D-6.Allcott
June 6, 200421 yr Dear Allcott,I am that old, as you so respectively put it but it beats the alternative.I apologize to the forum members for being so impolite. Now on to the business of flying.Ed W.
June 9, 200421 yr Hi Ed,Having just caught up with this thread, personally I don't see anything for you to apologise for. Before anyone gets any more excited perhaps everyone can chill out a little and return to something approaching civility.Although its easy enough to find the answer, your question was fair enough. As we're all aware, FSxxxx is not and has never been perfect. Due to the limitations of the coding it sometimes does odd things on some systems.Enter FSUIPC. Over the years this has developed into a whole suite of "fixes". Perhaps most common are the "dead battery" fix that corrects the problem that unless you get your engines fired up REAL QUICK the battery will drain to nothing, and the "controlled accelleration" fix where the rate of change when adjusting a dial or autopilot function escalates to the extent that it is impossible to adjust with any precision. On top of that FSUIPC has a whole section on calibrating the various axes of your flight control device that is far more precise than the default one within Windows. There are also sections on controlling wind speed and cloud and visibility settings. None of this is exactly vital if you don't have it but it just makes sim life a little more comfortable when all the glitches have been quietly dealt with. As has been suggested above, have a look at Pete Dowson's site for more detailed information.Cheers,Alastair
