Engine Fire

Featured Replies

On a couple of occasions I have had an engine fire in the DC3. It has occurred on a second flight when I have shutdown and then restarted. The first time was on climbout from an airfield. The second was near the end of the flight.I have not programmed any failures into the aircraft.I am obviously doing something wrong but I cannot work out what. Can somebody please let me know what I am doing wrong, or not doing right.

Sorry, I missed this message somehow.I think what you are seeing (and the shutdown - restart was the clue) is the start-up smoke effect. Does the smole and flash go away by itself after a short time? We don't have an engine fire effect programmed in the aircraft.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif

Sorry about the delay in replying. No it continues but the problem hasn't re-occurred lately. Next time it happens I will let you know. Thanks for getting back.Simon

SimonAlbeit that there is a certain aura of mystery about whether FS engine fires occur or not (a friend recently posted shots at DC-3 Airways that DEFINITELY show an engine fire on the default DC-3) the most likely reason for lots of sparks, stuttering and smoke is that on restarting your mixture is 'cut off'... sometimes this happens even though the lever appears to be forward. Jiggle it and it may reset. Likewise, on shutdown, if you use autoshutdown you may find you need to kill the mixture to achieve total shutdown. Here are those default shots I mention. I think you can see these without being a DC-3 Airways forum member i.e. signing in, although I am not sure:http://www.dcascreenshots.net/dcaforum/viewtopic.php?t=7554MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]
