Installation into FSX query

Featured Replies

I have both the new DC3 file and the upgrade patch for SFXTo avoid a mistake I'd appreciate confirmation that the following sequence would be correct:1.Install the new file but change the default path from FS9 to FSX2.The install the patch in the same way.Cliff

The README for the FSX upgrade explains all, Cliff. Follow the instructions to the letter. You're basically correct, other than that after the base install, the aircraft need to be moved to SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES from AIRCRAFT, that's all. But as I say, read the blurb.Good luck. Post if you have any problems, but you shouldn't.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

I'm grateful to you for helping me Mark.My problem is probably based on the fact that I haven't been able to locate the Readme file. Only "Installation Text". Of course the info I need may be in there but I haven't been able to locate it.In the hope that the the Manual would tell me what is needed I have just finished downloading it but I still cannot find the help I seem to require.Using your guidance: 1. I installed DC3 file into FSX and pasted the files from AIRCRAFT to SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES.2.I then extracted all the files in the update into SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES.After starting FSX I chose the MAAM DC3. At this point I suspected a problem as all five AIRCRAFT included a question mark overlaid on them. However I chose one and found myself in the aircraft with the engines running. HOWEVER, and here's the rub, none of the instruments were to be seen. Only black where they would normally be.Perhaps it's relevant to mention that I've been able to fly her with no problem.Regards................Cliff

Mark you suggested that I post you again if I encounter any problems. All is fine with the exception of my not having working instruments. Can you help me solve that problem please?Cliff

Cliff, the full instructions are to be found in "install_doc.htm". It's inside the zip that houses the FSX update. Click on this file and your browser will display step-by-step, illustrated instructions. Follow them exactly. There is also a plain text version of these same instructions in the "read_1st.txt", which is what Mark was referring to by the generic term "readme".I'll tell you where you are going wrong: You say, "I then extracted all the files in the update into SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES." It does not, and will not work that way. Doing it as you have done, the thumbnail pictures and gauges will be missing, among other things. The r4dFSXu1.exe is a self-installer that puts things into the correct folders in FSX. Give it another try, following the directions this time, and use the self-installer. It is perfectly safe and easy - if you follow the installation instructions.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif

"The sun was shining" you say. Don't tell me Mark.......... today must be the hottest August in Spain that I've been through yet.The answer to your query is a qualified affirmative. With your help I followed the installation instructions and I now have a stable of DC3's. They look good, they sound genuine and they fly realistically. However if you can help me with my other and bigger problem my satisfaction would be complete. To whit....my wife. My "Flight Sim Widow" as she sometimes calls herself. How do I find another plausible excuse to go flying without creating another Spanish Inqisition? If you have the answer I suggest you give up your day job, publish it in book form and go straight into retirement.Seriously, as an ex pilot, I'm delighted with your babies. For me the epitome of flying pleasure is learning how to grasp the fine points of flying my two favourite and very different craft: your DC3 and the PMDG 747-400. Now I'm looking forward to studying your descriptive and well compiled Manual. My thanks again to both of you!Cliff

Explaining to your "FSW" that your flying has a sense of purpose would admirably qualify your time spent.Which, sir, dictates that you must join the gang over at DC-3 Airways and get some real use out of your Gooneys.Take a look at www.dc3airways.comThe site is pretty self-explanatory. In summary, though, you will find:1. Hundreds of charters to fly2. Lots of instructive information3. Dozens of pages of interest.4. Keen multiplayer activity - which welcomes first timers warmly. We have a real mix over there, but they're all gentlefolk. Everybody from real DC-3 pilots, both retired and active, to numbskulls like me who are just in it for the fun of it. 8 to 80 (well, maybe not 8 yet, although I know we have a 10-year-old pilot, but certainly 80 - and over!)I recommend you have a poke about, anyway. Your wife would then understand that it is not only HER husband who is a complete whacko; and, she's appreciate the fact that some of our members (yes, even those in Spain) get together now and again in the real world, and that there'd be other wives to play with. Join DC-3 Airways, and I doubt there's a country where you'd be short of a bed!Hope to see you there,MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Thanks for that suggestion Mark. One more query, if I may. When reading the Manual I'm presented with numerous large boxes that, instead of providing information, are empty. Only a small red cross in the top left hand corner. How do I access that information please?Cliff

HiThere is a patch available at AVSIM specifically for use with FSX. The question marks in FSX is because there are no thumbnails available on the DC3 installation disk. The update corrects this. In the readme file of the FSX update they talk about missing guages. Maybe you should get it.hermannk

The more I poke about in the Manual the more impressed I am. You guys really have given this aircraft a great deal of loving thought. Well done!Don't bother to answer my query about the pictures in the Manual. I've solved that one. With my grateful thanks for your help and suggestions.Cliff

I've just posted the following note in the FSX Forum................................................................If you want an aircraft to give you a great deal of satisfaction then I suggest you consider the MAAM DC3 FSX upgrade. Have a squiz on:http://www.maam.org/maam_sim.htmlMy two top Sim aircraft used to be the PMDG 747-400 and the Marchetti. Both at opposite ends on the scale. Now I am adding the DC3 to this short list.Belive me, you won't be sorry to have this baby in your hanger. I should stress that I have no connection whatsoever to MAAM other than an admiration for their DC3 and their friendly and prompt help to my queries....................................................................Cliff

I'm happy to hear that you now have a full install, Cliff. Now for some flying!MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Hi Cliff,As the author of the manual, perhaps I had better jump back in. It sounds like you are not seeing the graphics - and it is a graphics rich document. Be sure you are running the html manual inside it's original folder so that it can locate the pictures and embedded videos.I heartily endorse Mark's recruiting effort for DCA, but a word to the wise: When I was heavilly engaged in VA flying my wife threatened to recruit other FSWs to form a virtual AAA battery! Good luck! Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif
