July 4, 200817 yr British Airways Virtual is organizing a special event, comemorating the Berlin Airlift. I would like to fly the MAAM's DC-3, with the appropriate livery. Which one is the most appropriate? I hope to get some help...Another question: it seems that, when flying online, other pilots see the DC-3 as a big kite. Is there any way to make it appear in all its beauty?Regards,Domingos
July 5, 200817 yr Commercial Member Hi Domingos. Great idea! I would recommend "Berlin Train", a repaint for the C-47A Air Drop Cargo model. It depicts a USAF Douglas C-47 that took part in the Berlin Airlift, 1948-49, and is now on display at Rhein/Main AFB near Frankfurt. The repaint is by Stephen Demmelmeier. http://www.maam.org/flightsim/enhance/berlin_train-1.jpgAnother candidate would be "CAMEL CARAVAN TO BERLIN" a Douglas C-47A of the 94th Transport Group, USAF, which participated in "Operation Vittles", the Berlin Airlift, in July 1948. By Jindrich Barta.http://www.maam.org/flightsim/enhance/camel.jpgBoth are available on our Free Stuff Page.I'll leave the multi-player question for Mark Beaumont, who has much more experience than I.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
July 5, 200817 yr Author I have found and installed the "Berlin Train"! Thanks Bill once more.Regards,
July 6, 200817 yr In order to see an aircraft in the sim, your fellow miltiplayers would have to have it also and install it. In FSX there is a fairly good chance that people will see you as the default DC-3. In FS9, you can try switching into the default DC-3 at the start of a session. People in the session will then still see you as a DC-3 when you switch to the MAAM version. If a player has the aircraft you are flying in FS9, they will see it. If you then switch to an aircraft they don't have, they will see you as the first aircraft. If they do not have any aircraft you have been in during the session, they will see it as the aircraft they started the multiplayer session in. Usually this means the Cessna 172.Best Regards, Donald T:-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.
July 6, 200817 yr Author It might happen as you say in Multiplayer. I think that, when flying online, as this is the case, you will indicate to the pilot client (SB3 or FSINN) the aircraft and livery you are using. The pilot client has to have this aircraft in its library in order to be displayed. The problem is that, at least some time ago, SB3 did not recognize the DC-3.Regards,
July 11, 200817 yr Hi DomingosAll your questions will be answered if you dig around in the forum over at DC-3 Airways. Start at www.dc3airways.comWe renact the Berlin Airlift annually, to a great level of accuracy and detail, and over a number of sessions; I'll be interested to see what BAV come up with! Bill has pointed you at a couple of good liveries there, although there are other military liveries available to you in our "free stuff" collection at MAAM-SIM.As for the flying triangle - this is a Squawkbox issue, yes, and only relevant to seeing other DC-3s when in VATSIM. We did have a chap sort that out for us at DC-3 Airways, but I'm damned if I can find the file offhand. If I do, I'll post again. SB itself has never corrected the issue. There's no problem in regular multiplayer, although it can be prudent to configure other planes to be seen as default rather than MAAM-SIM, when using a less powerful computer. Hope this helps a little. You will have got the message, above, that all serious DC-3 fliers should join our VA! Although some of our pilots - a number of whom are real DC-3 pilots - take their flying very seriously, we also have a lot of fun too. We like to think that our forum is one of the most useful on the web for the DC-3 and flightsim in general (just like this one, eh, Bill?!) so even a read through should give you some interesting information about your favourite plane.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
July 12, 200817 yr Author Dear Mark,Thanks for your comprehensive reply. As a member myself of DC-3 Airways (1378), I should have the answers to my questions, but I was too lazy to go back to information I remember to have read many months ago.So you confirm that SB-3 has not corrected the problem. I will inform the BAV event organizer about this. He is also a manager at VATSIM, and I am sure he would not appreciate to see a flying formation of triangles! I know he uses FSInn instead of SB-3; maybe the problem is solved there.I promise to keep you informed of any progress.Regards,DomingosP.S.: I still fly my MAAM's DC-3 (only original equipment) once or twice every month for DC-3 Airways, but I only made it online once.
July 12, 200817 yr Well, hi, 1378!Yep, I think there's no problem if using FSInn.You should get online more at DC-3 Airways! There are several sessions a week, often attracting between 10-20 aircraft which makes life interesting in the pattern! For the Airlift reenactment, there were many more, I think. Didn't have the time to fly it myself. I've flown with up to 25 aircraft, however, which is a lot of fun.See you in the crowded skies. Just keep your separation :)MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
