March 19, 200422 yr I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for the best video card to get for a Pentium 4 2.4 Dell computer with 1gb of ram. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 128mb card in my 3.2 ghz computer. Would that work well for the 2.4 or should I go another route?Any suggestions will be appreciated.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
March 19, 200422 yr Author I always worry about compatability issues between different forms of hardware. It seems like the ATI Radeon would also be a good choice for the P4 2.4. I think I will try that route.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
March 22, 200422 yr Hi, I recently bought an ATi Radeon 9800 128mb's Ram. I have a gigabyte motherboard with a 3.2 athlon onboard with 1.5 gigs of 2700 ram. To my disappointment the ATi card didnt like flight sim2002/2004. Every time I loaded fs2002/2004 my machine kept saying there was a VPU error and resetting itself. In the end I sent the GFX card back to the shop I bought it from and got a Nvidia 5900xp by MSI. Now this card is working greatI am posting this to just show what can happen sometimes.RegardsDavid BowenCyber Air 062.
March 23, 200422 yr Sounds like a overheat issue? VPU recover is supposed to crash your game when the card runs to hot so you don
March 23, 200422 yr Hi, Yes ATI cards are very good but have poorly written drivers for them, A vpu error has nothing to do with heat it is an error in the driver that is not compatible with some gigabyte mother boards. If you look in the ATi and gigabyte support forums you will see this. Its a pitty but I am happy with my Nvidia 5900 and 1.5 gigs of ram running a 3.2ghz athlon, all I can say is I never have frame rate issues, even at Heavy scenery airports and have clouds and scenery set all the way to max. If someone was going to ask me which card to buy it would have to be the 5900 with 256mb of ram.RegardsDave
