September 7, 200421 yr Defining power delivery from the PSU involves a couple of things... power within spec and a steady (as in non-fluctuating) supply to the system. If power is out of spec the system (primarily the motherboard) may not be at all happy. Also, the system is happiest when power delivery is smooth. If the needles in MBM dashboard are jumping around (even if they stay in the Green zone) the system is seeing that. It's supposed to handle that, but perhaps it isn't.I'll of course follow this thread. I believe you should concentrate on ruling out the scenery matter. No since worrying now about hardware issues (the system is running) until you've ruled out any software conflicts (that's the cheap way to troubleshoot... no computer parts to buy). :-) Cheers,Greg
September 7, 200421 yr Author Well, no sooner I was cleared to taxi to the active at Logan, I turned the Pilatus about and I had a system failure. Had to re-boot. (No house fan) But I guess the problem is the power supply??? And hopefully not the videocard... The cheapie PS I have now is a generic with no real name found on the net. (ISO, peak max of 450W. meaning nothing(?))I am looking at an Anteek "TruPower-430". Would this be enough? It is twice the price I paid for the ISO.Or I may just return the ATI butu from what Ive seen so far I really like simming with it. Had it 7 days.allen
September 7, 200421 yr I recently (last week) replaced my Antec Truepower with the PSU in my sig. I never had any real problems with the Antec, though I have an Enermax 431 in my wife's computer that I like alot also. They are both good quality PSU's.PSU's can be tough to troubleshoot. Your system temps seem OK, but evenso that PSU could be overheating! It might do alright at idle and during low stress app usage, but then simply throw up it's hands when placed under high load. Were you able to monitor the MBM dashboard while flying? (Set-up a flight on autopilot, minimize the sim, and then watch the dashboard). Again look at low power readings, but don't forget the importance of smooth power delivery.Greg
September 7, 200421 yr Author I did another taxi to active at Logan with the FS9 occupying 3/4 of the screen and enough room for the 'MBM dashboard'. The sim lasted until I was cleared for takeoff at which point instead of a system failure, the fps dropped to 2,4 (from a poor 11-13 fps with 100% AI + everything). It seems to have been bumped from hardware acceleration to the software rendering, sort of PVU recover (?). Anyway I closed FS9 it got too dull. The temps never exceed 36 for the CPU and 29 for the case. They are now back to 25/26 with FS9 off.The voltages remained rather constant without serious deviations, or if any at all.Now I will stop using add-on a/c and see... I was at times using the Pilatus, and this time the CRJ-700ER recently downloaded here.Seems the Default Lear45 works best Im gonno go see.
September 8, 200421 yr I had the exact same problem as you. I have a 9800 Pro on WinXP. I was running Cat 4.8 driver. While simming my screen would freeze and then my PC would start making wierd kinds of noises. It was like whatever sound effects (engine, wind, etc.) that were be generated at the time of freezing would get stuck in a kind of loop which played over and over. A hard reboot was the only way to get out of it.I removed the 4.8's and installed the 4.7's and the problem went away. Later I reinstalled the 4.8's to see how well they worked with Doom 3 and I also tried simming. Whelp, same freeze up happened a couple of times until I went back to the 4.7's.Just for the heck of it try an earlier version driver and see what happens.Jag.
