darn water textures

Featured Replies

I would love to have some realistic looking water but when I move my slider over to view them, one of three things happens. Very light blue, almost white water close to my aircraft in big squares, these adjust as I continue flying.(Land textures set to max land and water). Or, all the water is that light blue, almost white.(Land Only water at med.), and finally (land only, water at max)darn near everything blueish. I know that this is some sort of texture or video card issue, but to be honest havent really found a solution to this on the hardware posts.I am using:Biostar M7NCD mother boardAnthalon AMD XP 2400+ 2.0ghz processor512 MB ramRadeon 9200-128mb vid. cardsaitek x45 controller,Audigy 2zs platinum sound card.I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks alot.

Dunno about the big squares...Shouldn't really be doing that too much. You may be texture memory crimped or something...Should be ok with the 128 tho..But I find the color of the water using the med or max water to be too light a blue for my tastes, and for most locations. So I almost always run the water at the lowest setting so I get the darker shade of blue. To me, it looks more realistic for this area, and all I miss are the reflections. I still see the moving waves fx, etc at that setting. I'm using a fx-5200, so I guess it's that light a blue for ATI cards also, being you have a 9200...BTW??? Is that card dx9 compat?? I had thought it wasn't...Maybe they have upgraded dx9 drivers tho...The only time I ever turn on the med or max water is for some sunset flying, etc where I want to see the reflections. MK

"Dunno about the big squares..."This is a bug in FS9 coding. Nothing will fix it."9200...BTW??? Is that card dx9 compat??"The 9200 is DX8.1 compatible, which is just fine for this sim. FS9 needs DX9 for multiplayer only... the graphics in FS9 use the DX8 API.There are a number of freeware add-on water packages available. Check Avsim, Flightsim, and Simviation for all the choices. It's all a matter of personal taste... choose the one you like. Another alternative is FSWater from Flight1 (payware). It is an outstanding package that allows the user an almost infinite array of choices that are easilty configurable from the desktop (before starting a flight). It is a very nice package, and will be getting even better in the near future.Good luck,Greg

I have to agree with Greg's strong endorsement of the FS Water product. I was originally very sceptical but I agree now it is currently the best water rendition you can have in FS9. If you can handle a relatively modest $15 price I think you won't feel cheated.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg

I had that too some similar problem at least. On shorelines especially. Think I reinstalled my video card drivers to solve it but don

Thanks for your suggestions, I was able to get the matter cleared up by reinstalling fs9. must have been corrupted or something. Anyway, now just have to reinstall my cherokee add on from aussie sim, and make sure the water stays the same. Again thanks for the help.
