September 28, 200421 yr My current LCD (2 yr old Gateway 18") has a contrast ratio of 300 or 350:1. It's fine for everything except night flying, where its hard to pick out beacons or stars or lights on the horizon, because the background isn't dark enough (black enough). Will the newer LCD's with contrast ratios of 700:1 or 800:1, display night better? Thanks!Rick
September 30, 200421 yr interesting question!together with that, i have some others about TFT screens: i heard that you need a low responce time for FS (14 or 12 ms), correct? How much at least? Any other things to keep in mind for those screens to use with FS?thanks!Matt
September 30, 200421 yr "Will the newer LCD's with contrast ratios of 700:1 or 800:1, display night better?"Yep, I have an LG panel, and it works extremely well with FS, both in day and night. There will be people who will tell you panels are no good for FS, these people are talking rubbish, and cannot have seen a decent panel running FS.The only limitation with panels is the price, they are still a fair bit more than a good CRT.Dan.
September 30, 200421 yr Check you some reviews on the internet. I don't have a new TFT, I can't tell you how they perform but you shouldn't judge a display only on numbers. For comparison it's best to take a look t it in a local store.Claudio
October 2, 200421 yr Well it's fact that a good quality CRT is better pound per pound for gaming. It simply cannot be beat for clarity (dot pitch), smoothness (refresh rates) and resolution. There are some better LCDs out nowadays that have good refresh rates and some are pretty sweet. Stay away from the cheap small 15' versions. And you can always go to a site like http://www.sharkyextreme.com/ for good reviews. Gaming sites also have nice reviews on monitors.Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J.
