November 23, 200421 yr HI ALL:Can someone make a sincere recommendation related to purcxhasing a new graphics card that will truly enhance my FS9 experience?I do not require alot of technical information but simply a recommendation for a simple upgrade to my system to run FS9 better. My current system is a Dell Dimension 2100; 1.1Ghz; 37.21GB Capacity; Intel Graphics Controller 82810; Creative SB Live; RAM 256MB.In FS I can only run it at 800x for the display and hve to pretty well turn everything down to get a respectable frame rate. The cockpits are not that great as I cannot go to the higher 1024x settings in display.I would rather not get a new computer at this time.PLEASE-just a straightforward recommendation for a new Graphics Card!!!THANKS ALOT out there.ED Ryan
November 23, 200421 yr Provided the thing actually has an AGP slot (not 100% certain given it's a Dell), it's probably best to go with a cheap videocard. Unless you also plan on upgrading to a faster CPU, you'd be severely CPU-limited even with the slower cards available today. Try finding a cheap Radeon 9600 or similar. -
November 23, 200421 yr Not only does the motherboard NOT have an AGP slot, but the power supply is only 145W (per Dell's specs). You might be able to run something like an nVidia 5200 PCI card, but make sure of the power supply requirements of any card you might be interested in.Your system is very limited with regard to hardware upgrades... not alot you can do with it.Greg
November 23, 200421 yr I'm in a similar situation to Ed Ryan with a Dell Dimension 2350 with a 2GHz processor, 512Mb RAM, and Intel Extreme Graphics video built-in and would like to upgrade the video. (I bought this before I became interested in FS.)As I understand, it only has a PCI slot spare. Also, a quick check on the BIOS settings shows no way to deselect the video. The is an entry for the video which is set to "Integrated" with no alternatives.I'd welcome advice from anyone who has actually added a video card. Thanks Gerry Howard
November 23, 200421 yr And this is why you should never buy Dell :)Geez 145W? Even my P133 had a ~230W PSU -
November 23, 200421 yr You should check Dell's site for a BIOS upgrade for your motherboard. But don't get your hopes up... Dell makes alot of their stuff to be non-upgradable (which makes it more disposable than upgradable).Greg
