December 3, 200421 yr I have WinXP Home with SP2. I have 1024MB of RAM as well. In my taks manager, I show right now with FS9 running and other processes as well going about 334MB of physical RAM available for use with 304MB allocated for system cache. The thing I don't get is why is my page file useage showing at 750MB? I always thought that the PF was for when you ran out of physical RAM? I am probably wrong but would like someone who knows to help me out with a explaination. thanks! Eric
December 18, 200421 yr Eric,THe page file is always used by programs which are designed to use it regardless of how much RAM you have. This is just the way programs run in windows. However, the total memory usage you see in WinXP shows RAM pluse page file usage if I recall.Hope this helps. In any case, your 1GB of RAM should be more than enough even for FS2004 as I have seen my system which also has 1GB of RAM to peak at somewhere around 600-700MB tops.John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.
December 18, 200421 yr Personally with 1GB of RAM, I would turn the page file off, I have done it and I havent noticed anything higher then about 750mb usage. Where you say the page file only gets used when the RAM runs out, well thats not really true, by default part of the RAM is used and part of the page file, you can change it through tweaking, but by default it uses both.
