Here comes the future... and it's faster and cheaper

Looks very good. Near X800-XT performance for $100 less. It's a shame it only comes in PCI-e flavour at the moment as those who buy a mid-range card are not likely to own the very latest motherboard with PCI-e slots.

Good move. nVidia own the "budget" market if you are allowed to call 6800 GT and less that so that is what ATI is trying to change. Should have a better chance than the X800 PRO to sell.

What's the best AGP card on the market right now?RH

Best, or best for the money?I'd say the 6800GT and X800XT still offer good performance in the $399 range where as the 6800U and X800XT-PE offer little addition performance but cost much more and are harder to find. With a bit of luck, ATI or a third party board manufacturer will offer an AGP version of the X800XL, making that the obvious choice for those who want lots of performance for realtively little money. The best AGP cards currently regardless of cost are the X800XT-PE and 6800U and it's hard to pick a clear winner. The Geforce is faster in some games, the Radeon in some. For FS, the Radeon cards seem to offer slightly better image quality and framerate. Again, if someone produces an AGP version of the X850-PE it will be the ultimate card in everything except Doom3.

I just ordered a new PC with the following specs. this is my first time with the ATI card. given your comments on the X series, did I order the wrong card?1 221-7037 Dimension XPS Series, Intel Pentium 4 Processor, (3.46GHz,1066FSB) w/HT Technology Extreme Edition 1 311-3771 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 1 310-1582 Dell Quiet Key Keyboard 1 320-3000 Video ready option w/o monitor 1 320-4208 256MB ATI Radeon X850 XT 1 341-1590 NCQ Serial ATA RAID 0 with Dual 160GB Hard Drives

"...did I order the wrong card?"LOL. Don't think so, Jim! The X850 XT lends great balance to your new system. Your new box of bits should handle this sim quite well (please post with your impressions after you've had a chance to experience the sim on it).Regards,Greg
