Will this combo work? Building/upgrading PC

Featured Replies

Hello all... I'm going to build a new PC and wonder if anyone could comment on this set-up that I currently have planned... This new PC will only have windows XP and flight simulator installed on it. I'm hoping for good performance and wonder if anyone out there has this current set-up installed and running FS2004... If you do have this setup, is it stable, and what kind of FPS can I expect at KORD?At first I was going to go with Pentium, but recently changed to AMD. I hope AMD is a good choice?Sound is on the motherboard, I was going to just use that? Good Idea or not? Here it is:CPU - ATHLON 64 (3500+) SOCKET 939 (64 BIT) (RETAIL W/ COOLER)Motherboard - K8N NEO2 PLATINUM (NFORCE 3 ULTRA) AMD SOCKET 939 / SUPPORT ATHLON 64 - 64FX CPU / 1.0GHz FSB / DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY / 7.1 AUDIO / GIGABIT LAN / IEEE 1394 FIREWIRE / SATA / RAID / USB 2.0 / ( 5 PCI / 1 - 8x AGP / 4 DDR 400 / MAX 4.0GB MEMORYVideo Card - Microstar (MSI) (GEFORCE 6800GT) 256MB DDR / 8X AGP / DVI / TV OUT / DUALMemory - Corsair (PC3200) 1.0GB DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY KITCase - High Quality (9804-4HL-K)(IVORY) 17in ATX TOWER CASE W/ P4 - 450W POWER SUPPLY HDD - Maxtor DIAMOND MAX PLUS 9 (SATA) 160GB (8MB)Comments, what do you think?

Looks good. You don't mention which CPU you've chosen... the Winchesters are a great deal and offer cool ops and nice overclocking headroom.See the seperate post in this forum by PeteS... he's getting the memory to have. Uses Samsung TCCD modules. Your planned K8N motherboard will be very happy with that memory.Winchester 3500 + K8N + Sammy TCCD memory + good quality air cooling will be sweet. You should be able to get the system to PR4000 without breaking a sweat.Good luck,Greg

I have a similar setup (specs below). I built my system a couple of weeks ago and have had zero problems. FS9 is locked at 25fps with nearly all sliders maxed. Looks awesome and no stutters. KATL with 100% AI (tons of airlines installed) is smooth as silk.On board sound is fine. I had the SoundBlaster from my old system, so I use that.Just to warn you, that system is power hungry.. especially the video card. Check the max amps rating on the PS 12v line, try to get something higher than 20. Mine is only 16, but I made sure I divided the power between lines. C & A drives on one line. D, E & case fan on another. Video card on a line by itself. No problems so far, but I have heard of a number of people having power probs with the Neo2. The key is the amps on the 12v line. Cheers.

I have a ?My new pc specs are belowA64 3200+ K8NS Pro1GB PC320080GB SATAATI Radeon 9600XT 128I am happy with the system in general, and i can max all sliders and get around 25-30. If i lower a little, i get 33 or 35 easy.If i was to upgrade to the X800 or the 6800 (standard 6800, 256MB, the one priced at 399) what kind of performance increase would i see.As well with the 9800PRO 128MB..Thanks
