February 14, 200521 yr Just take a look at this folks:http://www.canada.com/technology/story.htm...7b-13148433ec4aLooks like Intel and AMD may have serious competition looming in the not too distant future.Mike
February 15, 200521 yr That's interesting! The more competition, the better. It means better technology at lower prices. Some people say Go Intel; some say go AMD. I have always said, and you probably will agree, GO Intel and GO AMD. The better each gets the harder the other pushes. Right now, I am GO Intel. They need to get their Intel64 onboard. When they do, the prices of all of the chips will come down and quality will go up. I, for one, am tired of chasing FS200X with hardware upgrades because of lack of good processors.RH
February 15, 200521 yr Nah I am not at all go Intel. I am go AMD because the more AMD sells the more Intel will have to adjust their pricing and really start to push their technology. Because people do still buy Intel CPU:s just because the Intel brand. When AMD is the gigant I will be go Intel ;). But I do hope IBM, Sony and the guys really mean business about getting into the desktop computer segment :)So I guess I will have to be go SONY/IBM ;)Will be interesting to see what will happen if we have three big players. As it is now it feels like especially AMD but Intel also they produce a chip that outperforms the opponent. Then they celebrate and are very happy with what they have until the the opponent releases a chip that is faster. Than those guys do the same misstake until the other one catches up and go past lol. With three players you would think they would be more on their toes all the time.
February 16, 200521 yr Right now I believe that Intel needs to release a processor to match AMD's 64 bit processors, that way, the prices of the Athlon 64s will drop, AMD will be forced to release the FX57 earlier and will be forced to tweak the 64s more for future releases. Right now, AMD is just trying to make as much money as they can by sitting back knowing they are currently king of the hill (and I don't blame them from their perspective), but from my perspective, I want more power at a cheaper price as soon as possible. I agree, Intel are still Chipzilla, but AMD won't be going out of business any time soon. Keep AMD hungry, and we will all succeed. I agree, three players would be better, but, for now, we just have two. RH
February 16, 200521 yr Author I wonder what it's like to be one of the many hard pressed technicians/engineers working for these outfits? The pressure must be enormous. Can't be much fun no matter how you may care to look at it.I'm not so na
