February 24, 200521 yr Still battling intermittent CTDs here.Direct X has become a focus. I'm using Win XP Home.Video card is BFGGeForceFX 5700oc, using 61.77 driversdated July 2004. There is one later version that seems tohave nothing I need. How do you all swap-out drivers like fuses?I read here how folks try different drivers all thetime. Isn't that sort of tricky? So I don't know how to find what version of DirectX I'musing. I see the latest is 9.0c, and the video card manufacterer's trouble-shooting guide identifies CTDsthat might be caused by a driver issue, or a Direct X issue.I would've thought a compatible DirectX 9 version wouldbe incorporated in the FS9 install routine.Anyway, I've already installed latest Soundblaster Audigydrivers. All that's left is maybe mobo drivers (HA, I didn'tknow mobos had drivers). As you can see, I'm learning onthe fly here. Thanks for any advicedirection.I've ruled out AFCAD2 as a source for my CTD problem, asI previously thought. I reinstalled FS9 and flew aroundin default mode for 4 days. No CTDs. Added various AIfrom PAI, AIA, and FSP using only the default aircraft list TTools makes when de-compiling, no additional entries made. The 2nd time I did this, I changed around the AI planesand had a CTD, so I thought it was an AI problem.Say, has anyone had a problem with ** WW2 4 Engined Bomber packagecausing a CTD?Rick (KMKE; More sunny days and disappearing snow)
February 24, 200521 yr In the START/RUN panel enter DxDiagand it will give you the present version of DirectXI use the latest version without problem. But it was also without problems I had the previous versionSRoger Roger See my specs in my profile
February 25, 200521 yr Thanks for the instructions, Roger.Sorry AVSIM Board folks. I thought I was asking questionsregarding OS software, and its possible influence on whyI continue to have CTDs.I plead ignorance! So it says I'm using DirectX 9.0b. 9.0c just came out, soI'm assuming 9.0b is fine for FS9.I'll redirect my search toward the hardrive for the sources of my problems. You see, I had a hard drive crash last May, a Seagate 60Gig. I decided when my local computer shop installed a new Seagate 80Gig hard drive for me to get FS9. FS2K2 ran great, but it was a chanceto upgrade to FS9.Ever since, I've struggled with CTDs with FS9. I've patched it too.So I am wondering, what, or how, could a 80Gig hardrive upgradecause CTDs in FS9?Anybody have an idea. Are there "hardrive drivers" I need to get?Man, I feel pretty incompetent right now. Thanks!!!Rick
