Is anyone using the AudioFX Force Feedback Gaming Heads...

Featured Replies

I was wondering if any of you are using the AudioFX Force Feedback Gaming Headsets? I have read some very good reviews about them and am considering buying a pair.I use 5.1 surround speakers right now, but would like to hear from those of you who are using these headphones with MSFS.Thanks!Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Gamming System Specs: (Built this one myself)AMD Athlon-64 3000+ Gigabyte K8NS nForce3-250 Chipset 8x AGP Main Board 1GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory 160GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive 16x DVD-ROM Audigy 2ZS Gammer Sound Card5.1 Channel Surround Sound Speakers256MB GeForce-5700 8X AGP Video Cotytech Gaming CaseCH Products Yoke, Rudder Pedals, Throttle QuadrantSaitek Cyborg Gold Joystic for Helo's & Stick equipped aircraftWindows XP Pro SP2Home Network for using the Instructor StationFS9 Sliders maxed with other settings (except weather, kills the FPS) at their best quality positions.

If it's the same crap called "rumble phone" (or something like that) that shows up time upon time again with a different company because the previous one gave up on it, stay away from the stuff. About three years ago I ordered a set from the States, and it was a GREAT thing to use. For two weeks, that is. Then the rumble phone stopped rumbling, forever. Well, those things happen, no sweat: I simply ordered a new one, which is much less hassle than sending the old one back for a replacement. The new specimen arrived, and rumbled away happily. This one lasted much, MUCH longer than the previous one: three weeks instead of two! If I remember correctly, they were around 75 US$ a piece, so for 150 bucks I had five weeks of pure enjoyment, that's only 30 dollars a week (sarcastic grin)!I threw one straight into the dustbin, and took apart the other one. Among other issues the wiring inside turned out to be no thicker than a spiders thread, so it was quite inevitable that the bloody phones would kind of "rumble themselves apart" within weeks.I'm not going to buy anything of the kind again, before I somehow get the reassurance that it's not AGAIN the same thing sold under yet another brand name, with (possibly) a slightly different exterior. The effects, by the way, are great. It's nice to not only hear, but also feel, some of the sounds. However, these things tend to be far too flimsily constructed to last.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

I'm not sure if these are the same as the headphones you are talking about. The headphones that I am looking at are made by the same company that makes the voice buddy software and the monitor tracking device for head movement. The company is called eDimensional. The URL is http://www.edimensional.com/The headphones were advertised in the March issue of Computer Pilot magazine and there are several online reviews (some from other flight simulator related websites) and gave the headphones very good marks. But I didn't see any specific reviews from consumers themselves. The headphone cost $49, so I was considering giving them a try. But I was still wondering if anyone hear at the AVSIM forums were using the Edimensional ones with FS9.Thanks for your reply!Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationGamming System Specs: (Built this one myself)AMD Athlon-64 3000+ Gigabyte K8NS nForce3-250 Chipset 8x AGP Main Board 1GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory 160GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive 16x DVD-ROM Audigy 2ZS Gammer Sound Card5.1 Channel Surround Sound Speakers256MB GeForce-5700 8X AGP Video Cotytech Gaming CaseCH Products Yoke, Rudder Pedals, Throttle QuadrantSaitek Cyborg Gold Joystic for Helo's & Stick equipped aircraftWindows XP Pro SP2Home Network for using the Instructor StationFS9 Sliders maxed with other settings (except weather, kills the FPS) at their best quality positions.

Greetings! No, I'm not sure either whether this is simply a revamped "rumble-phone" or a totally new design by eDimensional themselves. I sure hope the latter, because then I will whip out the plastic and order one!Always look on the bright side of life: it's impossible to be any worse, or any more flimsy, than the previous junk I designated to the dustbin (grin)! It can only be better!Jaap Verduijn.

Well now, I bought the eDimensional "oral vibrator" (grin!), and as I fully expected the bloody thing stinks. There's ALWAYS something wrong with these gadgets. In this case it's the left earpiece, where something seems to be sort of loose inside: some maverick little part inside vibrates happily along on a high "tinnish or metally" frequency with the official low and deep rumbling, utterly spoiling the experience. So that's the third specimen of this rumbling kind I bought which turned out not to be worth its money. However, since I'm rich anyway, I'll order a second one. If it happens to work well (which I don't expect), I'll take the first one apart to see what flimsy and idiotic construction eDimensional have applied to their gadget. The problem is that with my previous rumble phones and with this new eDimentional specimen, the basic idea is GOOD, but these things tend to be put together in the flimsiest possible way so they literally shake themselves apart.I'll keep you posted.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

I have the Kinyo 5.1 headphones with rumble effects and it works flawless after several months :).Now if rumble is something for you depends on who you are. Me I like it really nice in FS 2004 but more so in games like System Shock 2, Doom 3 which really makes you jump at times lol.But I think the technology is pretty mature now but as always guess there is better and worse products. The Kinyo 5.1 headphones I got is actually quite good. Now you won

I just purchased this headset because teamspeak endorses it....but I think it is crap so far. It is not loud at all and the mic sucks!! And the mic is the reason that I purchased it?!?@?!?@

Wow, I'm supprissed you responded to such an old post....But anyways, I have been using my AudioFX Force Feedback headset for some time now with excellent results. I use the mic with ATC simulator 2 and my speech recognition in that program is at 99% accuracy. I very rarely have to repeate my voice commands using the eDimensional mic.I use the headsets all the time with MSFS and the stereo sound is very good. These headsets were worth every penny and I have never had one problem with them.I'm not sure why you are having so much trouble with them. Maybe you should contact eDimensional's tech support and talk to them.As far as it not being loud, maybe you should check your sound settings in Windows. My headsets can blast me out and I don't have them turned up all the way. It would be way too loud if I did.It sounds to me like something is not set right in your OS.Be sure that you change your speaker setting to "STEREO HEADPHONES," if you don't you might be missing some sounds. This happened to me when I still had "5.1 Surround Speakers" selected under the sounds option in Windows XP. After changing to the stereo headphone option, I was able to hear everything just fine. Also, I don't turn the rumble all the way up, it is too much vibration, so I keep it at it's middle setting on the dial. One more thing, you did buy the ones from eDimensional right? I know there are some similiar products out there that don't work very good.If mine ever broke, I would buy them again. That's been my experience with them!Scott :-scatter

Thanks Scott. I did get them working on my pc! But I can't get them to work with SquawkBox. Not sure if I have the setup correct. I am running SB on a client computer via Wide FS. Should I have SB installed on the client, server or both?
