April 25, 200521 yr Hi, was wondering if someone could tell me how to get to the command prompt in Windows XP Home Ed. When I boot up my computer, I press F8 which is standard and it takes me to the menu, but there is no command prompt option. I would like to format my HD and create some partitions, but I have no idea how to in Windows XP, it's so much different from 2000 or 98.Thanks,Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
April 25, 200521 yr If you plan on re-installing XP, just boot from the XP CD. When you get into the install package, you can reformat the hard drive and create partitions. Then let it install.Otherwise, you will need a boot floppy/cd. You can get boot images for floppies or cds from here:http://www.nu2.nu/bootablecd/
April 25, 200521 yr Author Thanks Ken.Anyone else who reads this, I've just finished reformatting and reinstalling FS, and it's great, it seems to have really boosted my performance, but I guess we'll see when I start installing my addons.Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
April 25, 200521 yr Yup nothing speeds up your computer like an old fashioned reformat :).One thing you could do to ease the pain about reinstalling when you start to loose performance again is invest in a back up program like Norton Ghost or similar :). I am back up in 10 minutes after a reformat whereas it otherwise would take a whole day lol.As for creating partitions the really simple way is get something like Partition Magic 8. Then you can adjust them on the fly without risking loosing data, very convenient.
