Upgrading to Windows XP 64-Bit

Featured Replies

Hello,For those of you who have jumped from 32 bit to 64 bit windows XP..can you explain to me about the upgrading process? Was it hard..did it take long? what errors have you soon, and what improvements in gaming have you seen? Is the 64 bit version a beta, or is it an official release?I'm waitin for my new 450 wat PSU to arrive to put in my new MOBO and AMD 64 3000+ processor..cant wait!!thx for the helpStephen

I currently run a dual boot. It's just the same as installing 32BIT windows, nothing hard at all about it. FPS wise games are the same, just that everything is always smooth and textures in FS load instantly, most noticeable when changing views. I am using RC2 of 64 bit windows, I do plan on getting it though when Saitek releases drivers for my joystick, then I will move to 64BIT, everything of mine has worked very well, thought all my hardware has been bought in the last 6 months, hard to say with older though.

Well considering FS2004 was built 2 years ago, i dont think it would use any of the new technology in win 64, hopefully FS2006.:-hah

Hi, as far as I'm concerned, xp64 is the best MS-OS I've ever seen. It's stable like nothing else and as Kurt mentioned, textures load much quicker. The only 'problem', it's still quite new and you'll need to investigate whether all of your hardware has drivers and whether your programs will work. P

Hi Clayton, if you check the 'other hardware forum' (PC/Mac) at the bottom of the top forum page, you'll find an extensive thread (XP64 is in the title) with a couple of infos and useful links. The only thing I never added there, is that Creative released an official xp64 driver for their Audigy soundcards a few days ago. Pls note that I neglect whether they're only for the Audigy2? If memory isn't failing, the thread started back in March and speak is mainly of the xp64 beta(s). What you'll need to research, is hardware and software support. Maybe someone can start a similar thread here in the MSFS hardware forum? Drivers which seem to function well are those of the nForce and Geforce (as they go back a long way). Unlike Ati which commenced their xp64-driver development not too long ago. Nevertheless, last month, Ati released their first official xp64-driver (which I haven't tested yet). As for Via, I couldn't tell. And I must say, I'm a little outdated again and I haven't used xp64 too much because of my gameport equipment(!). It effectively is a matter of testing and -as Kurt proposed- the best way to do so is in a dual-boot environment (you could download and use the latest beta if you like). For example AV software is still a big miss and very, very few AV-programs are available. Nero Burning Rom works but others don't. As P

I cant install my copy of win xp64-bit, it couldnt find any harddisks so thats a showstopper, weird its a brand new pc so why would it not recognize the disks.I guess theres nothing i can do about this, other than wait till an more updated trialversion is released.

You probably need floppy that have 64 bit drivers for your hard drive controller. Then, during installation, press F6 to install additional drivers. I had to do this for my SATA drives.
